Please, does any body understand whether this ("market ID*100+shop ID") is a command or not? If it is a command, what exactly would it achieve or do? Thanks,

It it not an EpiData command, but looks like part of the syntax to create a single variable that identifies a particular shop:
msid = marketID*100 * shopID
Note - no spaces...

Say market ID is 3 and shop ID is 25.
Then the code for the market/shop combination is 3 * 100 + 25 (3 times 100 plus 25) = 325
Of course, this only works if the IDs are numbers.

Can anyone give me advice on how to add a variable to an existing rec file when data entry during an ongoing cohort study without loosing the recorded data entries? Thanks Philipp

Hi Pihilipp, Not to difficult: Revise the qes file with the new variable Next time you open the rec file it will notice that the qes file has changed (must be in the same directory) and will offer to update the rec file. Accept this - no data are lost If neccesary you can then also revise the chk file with relevant info about the new variable. Voila. Kind regards Claus Holst Copenhagen

Thank you Claus! Putting them into the same directory solved my problem! I really like EpiData! Philipp
