On a second thought I might have misunderstood the question.
Compare these strategies:
1. From rec+chk to a stata dta file and from that into a new format file a. With the current EpiData Entry export your rec+chk file to a stata file (menu data in/out) b. In the new Manager create a new project c. Add structure / or import your stata file directly into the new project d. Now all fields are imported and any value label (comment legal) in the rec/chk file will be added automatically.
2. Import rec file + chk file a. In the new Manager create a new project b. Add structure / or import your rec file into the new project c. Now you can see any value labels defined in the value label editor (alt+v) but these are not linked to the fields d. link labels to fields by pointing at one field at a time and then hitting enter, after which you can assign a value label to that field.
3. Import qes file a. In the new Manager create a new project b. Add structure based on the qes file with "paste as" to the relevant field type. this can be done if the qes file is open in an editor.
In other words what is available in the new project depends on how you created that project and added information.
