Dear EpiData-list,
I am having trouble running EpiData on my Mac. I have downloaded the version of EpiData for Macs, and used the directions in "readme.txt". I double click on runManager.command and then on startManager.app. The double click on startManager.app is always followed by an error message. I've tried several times, as has a student on her own Mac. We always receive the error message and cannot run the program.
Is there a fix or workaround for this? Apologies if this has been asked before, we were not able to find a solution that worked on the archive.
Thank you so much for your help.
Best regards, Sara Smith UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health
My apologies. The solution I proposed for this version (what is explained in the readme.txt file) doesn’t seem to work for me either, any more.
You might want to use the test version 143. It works fine on my Mac (Snow Leopard and Mavericks).

Hi Jaime,
Thanks so much for your response.
On a PC, when I open it I get a browser, but on my Mac I can open the 1.4.3 client but I can't get a browser to select any of the files (so I can't open any of the surveys we've set made). I also tried opening Preferences to test it, and none of it seems to work or allow me to select anything. Is there maybe a step that I'm missing?
Thanks so much for your help!
Best regards, Sara

I have never had that problem. V1.4.3 has worked for me on Snow Leopard and now Mavericks. If I click on the ‘Define Project’ and select ‘Open Project’ (or just type <cmd>O), the file dialogue comes up right away.
Do you know how to find error messages (Utilities, Console.app)? If you see error messages that start with ‘epidatamanager’, these may help figure out what is wrong.

Unfortunately we have not been able to stay focused on the "standard release versions" latest weeks/months. This is the reason for the problems found in this Mac version.
The current download versions found at : http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php Are sufficiently final to use for production purposes.
Should anyone know of a source of major funding it would be good to know. It gives abrupt development cycles to rely on what funding adds a few months at a time.
