Thanks what you advise does fix the problem. However even if the uncompressed STATA file is used and Epidata wants 1.000 in stead of 1, 1.000 is stillnot recognised as a legal value, if you put in 1.000 it says illegal entry. However the whole problem is circumvented when compressing the file as you suggest. Thanks paul Rheeder
