Good day,
In our University we run a course on-line and students learn how to use EpiData as well as Stata during the course.
We encountered a problem with the students who use Apple Mac computers and who are using Catalina OS. It appears that EpiData does not run properly in Catalina environment. They can download and install a beta version but that does not allow saving, for example, or export to Stata; so they are unable to submit assignments requiring the preparation of questionnaires, data entry or export to Stata.
It affects about 20 of our 600 students.
Does anyone have any solution to suggest?
Which version of the apps are you using? It sounds like a problem with file permissions, which can arise on shared computers, but I’m assuming your students have their own Macs.
The default data folder (set via the Preferences menu) must be a folder with full access (within their home folder - e.g. /Users/name/data).
I’ve been working to get all aspects of EpiData working on the new Mac OS, including Big Sur, but I have not run into this problem.

Thanks,
The students have their own MACs and it is only a problem with those using Catalina. We are using the latyst version of the apps as found in the links on the website: *Manager* *v4.6.0.4* *EntryClient* *v4.6.0.2 (We are not using the analysis module, they use Stata for analysis)* Much appears on the internet about this but it seems old and I was wondering if there is something new. At the moment I am just telling them to borrow someone else's computer for these sessions. They are not very pleased with me. I am an Apple Mac user but am using an older version of the OS and so I did not anticipate this problem.

Manager 4.6.0.4 and Entry 4.6.0.2 should not even run on macOS Catalina, as they are 32-bit apps.
There are compatible test versions of Manager and Entry, which should be fine for your students. They will also run on your Mac, so you can check them out. The test versions are distributed as .zip files and the contents can be used to replace the standard version.
They are available on the EpiData site at epidata.dk/testing.php http://epidata.dk/testing.php
The test version for Manager and Entry is 4.6.0.6

Thanks very much,
I will give these links to the next class that starts on 28th June. I am very grateful.
