Please, I seem to be having problem in the number of characters and number of values that EpiData takes in the value label. First, I discover that the program could not take more than 15 characters without space. Second, the number of values could not go beyond certain values. Does any body have a way round these challenges? I need your help please! Thank you.

Actually, I am just starting to learn what UTF-8 is. But I did test epidata manager with a myanmar font which is widely used on the web. When I typed in Myanmar in epidata manager, many squares showed up and I understood nothing.

You must install Chinese language on your Windows
machine (easy to pick
from the Windows languages list). With that, your PC
can display
Chinese characters (this has nothing to do with
EpiData, but with Windows).
Once that is done, the following is possible with the
current EpiData
Entry version:
Field labels can be in Chinese Value labels can be in Chinese
Field names cannot be in Chinese (I believe) Values in text fields cannot be in Chinese
The EpiData Association development team is working on
a version of
EpiData software that is going to use UTF-8, so
everything will be
possible in any language.

Thanks Hans. This is very helpful. I don't use windows
and am helping out a colleague remotely, so this has been a bit of an exploration for me.
"Values in text fields cannot be in Chinese"
effectively means that even though the questions can be in Chinese the answers can only be written in English. I think that most of the questions in this survey use numbers or lists so for most of it I think we will be okay.

UTF-8 is a way of using characters with computers, where each letter in any language can be expressed without transformation. The test by ZAW is a very appropriate one, since we must find ways of supporting local language. Possibly there is some obstacle that we did not find in the specification of the screen font for EpiData Manager .
I do urge all users to test local language with the test version of EpiData Manager available from http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php
For the manager development it is good if you can upload such examples to the Flyspray database including a screen shot on your pc in a zip file. See on the epidata.dk/testing.php page for a link to the Flyspray bug reporting system.

It's not clear what you are trying to do. The Analysis command "valuelabel" does not have these limitations in my experience. If you are using Analysis, can you send the commands (.pgm file) you are using?
