Cette conférence présente les résultats de recherches internationales sur la participation des enfants dans les procédures de protection de l'enfance et dans les procédures de justice pénale pour les jeunes. Elle permet aussi un dialogue entre juges qui pratiquent dans ces domaines et qui partageront leur expérience sur les bonnes pratiques favorisant la participation des enfants dans le respect de leurs droits. La recherche internationale a été menée au sein de l'Association Internationale des Magistrats de la Jeunesse et de la Famille (AIMJF) avec des dizaines de pays participants. Le rédacteur en chef de la Chronique de l'AIMJF, Eduardo Rezende Mel, juge au Brésil, a coordonné les recherches et présentera les principaux résultats qui en découlent. L'honorable Mélanie Roy et l'honorable Anne-Marie Otis sont des juges de la Chambre de la jeunesse à Montréal qui ont participé à ces recherches. Elles apporteront un regard québécois sur les opportunités et les limites de la participation des enfants aux procédures judiciaires.

This conference presents the results of international research on the participation of children in child protection proceedings and in criminal justice proceedings for young people. It also allows for a dialogue between judges who practice in these fields and who will share their experience on good practices promoting the participation of children in respect of their rights. The international research was conducted within the International Association of Youth and Family Judges and Magistrates (IAYFJM) with dozens of participating countries. The editor-in-chief of the AIMJF Chronicle, Eduardo Rezende Mel, a judge in Brazil, coordinated the research and will present the main results. The Honorable Mélanie Roy and the Honorable Anne-Marie Otis are judges of the Youth Division in Montreal who participated in this research. They will provide a Quebec perspective on the opportunities and limitations of children's participation in legal proceedings.
