Dear colleagues, I am sharing this announcement from the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI). As you can see the next conference is in September and there is also information about the annual gathering in 2025. You will also find a call for institutes/centres who may be interested in becoming members. If this is the case of your organization, please let me know as the application requires a sponsor and HRREC could play this role. Our Centre has been a member since 2015 and I am currently serving in their Executive board. Happy to answer any questions you may have to decide on this point. Of course, you can also register to receive their newsletter which will give you an idea of activities and information shared. Very best wishes,
Viviana

The 2015 AHRI conference will be on organised crime and human rights and held in Lima, Peru, in September 2025. If your institute is interested in hosting the AHRI conference in 2026 please submit an expression of interest by 26 August 2024 and let me know if you have any questions about hosting the conference. AHRI makes a financial contribution (currently 8000 euro) to the conference host.
Do you know a human rights institute that you think may be interested in joining AHRI? Ask them to check out the membership informaiton on the AHRI website (https://new.ahri-network.org/membership-application-guidelines/) and contact me for any questions they may have about membership. New members are admitted at the General Assembly so encourage any prospective new member to apply by 26 August. A prospective new member should include a support letter from an existing member with their application.
Please subscribe to the AHRI newsletter if you don't already do so: https://new.ahri-network.org/newsletter/ Also encourage staff and students at your institute to subscribe to the newsletter. We have had technical problems with delivery of the monthly newsletter in some months but they are all available in the archives
On AHRIs website you can view the statement issued by the AHRI Executive Board in April on the Gaza war. On a related issue see the request from Rachel Murray below.
Regards,
Magnus

Dear AHRI colleagues
In light of on-campus demonstrations regarding the situation in Palestine, a team of students in the Human Rights Law Clinic, which operates under the Human Rights Implementation Centre at the University of Bristol, are involved in drafting reports on freedom of expression, and assembly in these contexts, as well as other rights issues impacting on the students who participate. We would like to reach out to see if there are other similar student groups in any AHRI centre or institute with whom our team could connect.
Please reach out to me if such a group exists within your institution or if you require any further information.
With regards Rachel Murray (Director, Human Rights Implementation Centre, University of Bristol, UK): rachel.murray@bristol.ac.ukmailto:rachel.murray@bristol.ac.uk
