High Flow Nasal Cannula on Anesthetic machines
Currently the A9’s are set-up with the high flow humidifier and circuitry ready to go. This poses 2 problems. First, one of the connecting hoses is open to atmosphere which then compromises the cleanliness of the circuitry. Second, we have a very high number of humidifiers that are damaged while just hanging out on the back of the machine from being bumped and smashed into things (like the boom or the Neptunes etc…). This leads to cracks in the humidifier that leads to them leaking all over the floor usually mid-case.
Going forward, once the set-ups that are currently ready to go on the back of the A9’s are used, they will not be re-set. There will be a highflow circuit on top of the drug cart in every room should you require one. The RT’s or ORA’s will be happy to show you how to set it up. It is a really easy process.
1. Turn humidifier on
1. Push the humidifier into the base

1. Spike your sterile water bag
1. Attach the short blue hose to the outlet on the A9
1. Use the other long blue hose to attach to your prongs.
