Class of 2029, As noted in your orientation session this morning, we are in need of some Pre-Clerkship Student Course Representatives from your class! These positions play an important role working with faculty and UGME staff during each course and are a great leadership opportunity. It's also a unique exposure to clinicians in fields you might be interested in! For those who are interested, I have attached a 1-page Overview of this position as well as a Guidelines for Pre-Clerkship Course Reps document which outlines the full duties and responsibilities for this role. Please note the following for signup today: 1. A sign-up sheet will be posted on outside the 260 Brodie front doors at 12:15pm today. Please bring a pen. 2. Positions are filled on a first come, first served basis. 3. Please ensure you are only signing up for one position. 4. Students who sign up will be required to attend a mandatory Student Rep Orientation run by Dr. Mongru, Pre-Clerkship Curriculum Director on Monday, August 25. Time has been protected in your calendars for this. Students who do not sign up will have the orientation removed from their calendar. 5. Once the positions are full, we will take the sign-up sheet down and an announcement of your student course reps will be sent out to the class. Some additional details: 1. Please remember that all Module 1 courses run again in Module 2; students are committing to represent the course in both modules. * See course timing (for non-longitudinal courses) throughout Modules 0, 1, 2 and 3 is listed below. 1. You will not be allowed in the exam room with these items. You can leave them outside but at your own risk. If you return after the 30-minute cut-off time, you will be considered late and will not be able to write the exam and will receive a zero on that exam. Plan accordingly. Welcome Class of 2029! You have been added to ExamSoft and will receive an email from them with your log in information as well as information for installing the program. Please check your junk/spam folders if you don't see it in your inbox. Feel free to change your password once you log in. Please make sure your ExamSoft and Examplify are up to date, as well as your laptops. On Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, I will release a copy of the practice exam for you to use. The password is welcome2029. This exam is not worth marks but is MANDATORY to complete. The questions will test your knowledge of ExamSoft, Examplify, and UGME policies. I have attached several documents for you to read. Exams for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year will be on campus. Exams for the Fall term have been uploaded to Entrada with the room numbers and instructions. Please review the Exam Conduct policy before your first exam. Highlights of this policy include: * Leave belongings in your locker * Bags are not allowed in the exam room - you can leave them outside but at your own risk. We will not watch them. Best to leave them in your lockers. Only exception is for approved medical devices that must stay on your person. * Cellphones are not allowed in the exam room - leave them in your lockers. If you are found with your cellphone in the exam sitting area, you may receive a zero on your exam. * Water is the only liquid allowed in the exam room and must be in a clear bottle. If it is a store-bought bottle, the label must be removed. * Food is not allowed. If you must eat during the exam, you may ask to leave your seat to retrieve food from your locker and consume it outside the exam room. You are not given extra time for this. You will be escorted during this time. The only exception is if you have an approved accommodation for food (ex. Diabetic). * You may bring a pen/pencil and non-scientific calculator to the exam. You will be provided with scrap paper that must be returned to the invigilators at the end of the exam. * Religious headgear can be worn during exams. Other head/ear coverings (hats/toques/hoods/etc.) are not permitted. * If it is cold and you want to wear a jacket or sweater/hoodie with pockets, be aware that invigilators will ask you to turn out your pockets to make sure there is nothing in them. * You are required to stay in the exam room for a minimum of 30 minutes due to the exam late arrival period. * There is a 30-minute late period for emergency situations only. This is not meant as time for last minute studying. Please be mindful of other students if you need to enter late and keep distraction to a minimum. * It is advised to show up at least 15 minutes before the exam starts to give yourself time to sign in and get settled. For the first exam - please give yourselves more time! At least 30-45 minutes. * You will not be given extra time if you start late. * The only time we will give extra time is if you run into technical problems. * Bathroom breaks are allowed - please let an invigilator know and you will be escorted to the bathroom. The invigilator will wait outside for you and then escort you back to the exam room. If you require accommodations for exams, please contact Student Accessibility Services. You must be approved for accommodations in order to receive them. If you do not get approved accommodations in time, there is no guarantee that you will have accommodations for that exam. They have their own guidelines that you should familiarize yourself with. If you are not approved in time, you will have to write with the rest of the class at regular time. Congratulations on your offer of admission and welcome to the Max Rady College of Medicine! While this is a very exciting time for you, we know it may be stressful to consider the financial cost of a medical education. Aside from tuition costs, there will be the added cost of electives and residency interviews along with the cost of housing, groceries, and transportation expenses to name a few. We are here to help. Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge and tools to manage your personal finances during your 4 years at the Max Rady College of Medicine. The College of Medicine is offering a 1-hour financial information session for you and your family. We will review the cost of medical education and discuss bursaries, student loans, bank lines of credit, and disability insurance. The information session will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. This session will be conducted virtually through Zoom. Sign-in information will be sent to you by email once your session is confirmed. This session is not mandatory, but we strongly encourage you and your family to attend. There will be ample time for questions at the end of the session. Good afternoon Class of 2029! I just wanted to send a note to formally introduce myself as you'll begin to receive more emails from me as we get closer to the start of the academic year. My name is Maggie and I'm the Pre-Clerkship Program Lead in UGME, which means I oversee the first two years of your UGME program. You will get to know the rest of the UGME/Pre-Clerkship admin team pretty well over the next couple of years, but during Pre-Clerkship if you're ever not sure who to contact for help, I'm your go-to person. So, save my information now in your contact lists and mark me as a favourite before you have a chance to meet the other (better, cooler) staff. Moving right along, there are usually a few things students start to look for around this time. Take what you need from this: 1. Accessing Entrada Entrada is our curriculum management system, where you will access your personalized calendars, course/learning event objectives and resources, attendance records, other materials and program evaluation surveys. You will use this system for all 4 years of your program. * Entrada can be accessed via the following page: https://entrada.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca (bookmark this!). * Your username is your myumanitoba.ca email address; your email password should synchronize to also be your Entrada password. 1. Schedules * By now your individual schedules should be populated in your Dashboard calendar<https://entrada.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca/dashboard>. Some important schedule notes: i. Good habits. Your dashboard is ONLY way to access your full, personalized schedule. This can differ from the schedule of your classmates for some courses. Other calendar displays throughout Entrada may be incomplete for you, so for now, please ensure you are planning class attendance based on that dashboard landing page. You should be checking this page regularly (daily) before classes and when planning ahead for extra-curricular activities. ii. It's a work in progress. Your schedule is mostly just a framework right now. All the good stuff -- instructors, materials, learning objectives and other resources -- is still being populated for many courses. We appreciate your patience! iii. Changes can happen. Significant changes to published courses are not anticipated at this point, but minor changes can (and will) still occur. Again, please ensure you are checking your Entrada schedule regularly for updates. iv. If it looks wrong, it might be. Please contact me or year1ugme(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:year1ugme@umanitoba.ca> if anything seems amiss in your schedule, e.g. learning events that conflict with another, or sessions in a classmate's calendar but not in yours. Mistakes and technical issues happen! We can look into these quickly for you and reassure as necessary. :) 1. Textbook List * I have attached a textbook list for Pre-Clerkship. Many textbooks are available online for free through the UM library and are noted as such in the listing. 1. Important Dates * For the advance planners in the group (you know who you are): Start of Classes: Monday, August 18, 2025 (Orientation Week) Last Day of Classes: Thursday, December 18, 2025 Winter Break: Friday, December 19, 2025 - Friday, January 2, 2026 (2 weeks + 1 day for 2025/26) Classes Resume (after Winter Break): Monday, January 5, 2026 Spring Break: March 16-20, 2026 Last Day of Classes: Friday, May 22, 2026 Rural Week: 1 week exposure during this date range May 25 - June 5, 2026 NOTE: Winter Term schedules are normally published around December 1.
