From: HSC/Shared Health Security & Safety Notifications Sent: Friday, February 6, 2026 8:11 AM Subject: Preventing Piggybacking and Enhancing Personal Safety
Your security and the safety of our patients is paramount. Piggybacking - when unauthorized individuals enter behind an employee using their access card - poses a risk to our secure environment.
Please review and adhere to the following critical security measures:
* Secure All Access Points * Use your ID to scan yourself through access points but do not hold the door open for unknown persons behind you. * This includes areas such as doors, parkade entrances and turnstiles.
* Be Aware of Your Surroundings * Before and after scanning your card, take a moment to assess the area.
* Prioritize Your Safety Over Confrontation * If you observe unauthorized persons trying to follow you (piggybacking) or if the situation feels unsafe, do not confront them. * Instead, continue walking to the nearest safe, populated area, or a member of our security team. * Once safe, immediately call Security (204-787-4567) and give a description of the individual(s) and location this occurred at.
The turnstiles, and card readers are effective risk mitigation tools, but they rely on your vigilance. Thank you for your continued commitment to a safe Health Sciences Centre.
