This message is sent on behalf of Dr. Padma Mongru, Director, Pre-Clerkship Curriculum: ________________________________
Dear Students,
On behalf of the Department of Family Medicine, I would like to thank you for attending Med.Zero at the Max Rady College of Medicine last month!
We enjoyed meeting all of you and having the opportunity to introduce you to the specialty of Family Medicine, as well as introducing you to some of our wonderful Family Physicians and Family Medicine residents. We hope that you were able to learn a little bit more about Family Medicine, had fun learning new clinical skills, and enjoyed meeting your classmates. We also hope that you found it a worthwhile experience and that it was a fun way to ease into medical school.
We encourage you to get involved during med school and learn more about the various specialties (including Family Medicine) and learn and discover what you are passionate about. Shadowing a physician is a great way to gain experience and learn more about a specialty outside of the classroom. There are also many student interest groups and joining FMIG (the Family Medicine Interest Group) is a wonderful way to meet family physicians, learn more about the specialty, about applying to CaRMS, learn new skills, and a lot more. I also encourage you to ask a lot of questions while you're a student and keep an open mind as you go through your studies.
If you have any questions that did not get answered during Med.Zero, please feel free to email me (about Family Medicine, med school, etc.). Or if you have specific questions for any of the preceptors who taught the clinical skills workshops or the doctors who were on the panel, we will gladly pass along your questions. My email address is padma.mongru@umanitoba.ca. mailto:padma.mongru@umanitoba.ca.You Youmailto:padma.mongru@umanitoba.ca.You can also reach out to the Department of Family Medicine's pre-clerkship email (FM.Pre-Clerkship@umanitoba.camailto:FM.Pre-Clerkship@umanitoba.ca) if you would like additional information about Family Medicine.
Also, thank you for completing your questionnaires. As Med.Zero is a part of a research study, you will receive 2 more questionnaires during the school year to follow up on your experience (~ January and after rural week). I kindly ask that you also complete those questionnaires as well. Your answers will help to shape pre-clerkship curriculum (which is pretty cool).
Thank you again for attending Med.Zero! We also had a lot of fun meeting you and giving you a taste of the variety and excitement that Family Medicine has to offer.
I wish you all the best during your med school journey.
Dr. Padma Mongru
