Hi Class of 2030! This email marks the beginning of the Class Council Election process. The election timeline is as follows: * September 8th – 19th at 11:59pm: Nomination Period. * September 22nd – 24th at 5:00pm: Voting Period. Only M1 students will vote in this election, and votes will be submitted via an online ballot. To nominate yourself for a position, please fill out the form below which includes: * The position which you are running for * A written platform of 300 words maximum (500 word maximum for Class President candidates) * An optional video speech recording, maximum 3 minutes long (5 minutes maximum for Class President candidates) NOMINATION FORM: CL2030 Class Council Self-Nomination Form – Fill out form<https://forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=C92AT4wzTE6KFJBEaW…> I have included a document with a brief overview of the duties for each position. For further details, the MMSA Bylaws and Elections/Referendum Manual can be found on the MMSA website<https://mmsa.online/resource-centre>. The positions that are elected as part of the Med 1 Class Council Election are: * Class President (1 position) * Academic Representatives (2 positions) * Social Representatives (2 positions) * Sports Representatives (2 positions) * Wellness Representatives (2 positions) * MMSA Medicine I Representative (1 position) * Community Outreach Representatives (2 positions) * Global Health Liaison Junior (1 position) Some key rules to note: * You cannot run together with a classmate and have a shared campaign (i.e. no “slates”), including for positions that have multiple representatives. * You can only nominate yourself for one position. * You cannot nominate classmates for a position. Self-nomination only. * Class Council Appointed Positions will be filled through an application process after the election, led by your soon-to-be-elected Class President. CARTSS: Acute Resuscitation Simulation Program

Hello Med 1s, For the third year, we are excited to be launching CARTSS: Competency in Acute Resuscitation Through Successive Simulation! CARTSS is a voluntary, student-run program led by Med 2s and overseen by Med 3s, residents, and attending physicians. The program was originally founded at Queen’s University and was brought to Manitoba three years ago. CARTSS provides an opportunity to develop practical, hands-on resuscitation skills in a low-stakes and educational environment. Across approximately 7–8 one-hour sessions throughout the school year, you will progressively build on your BLS skills and gain experience managing simulated code blue situations, including CPR, BVM ventilation, defibrillation, closed-loop communication, leadership, and teamwork. These are skills you will continue to use throughout medical school and into clerkship, and CARTSS provides additional practice before your Med 3 simulation sessions. It is also an opportunity to gain exposure to emergency medicine and connect with emergency physicians in a supportive learning environment. CARTSS also provides a potential opportunity to become a volunteer leader in the program during Med 2, which can be added to your MSPR! We have done our best to account for the Med 1 exam schedule when planning this year's sessions. The majority of dates have been secured, and we are currently finalizing the schedule. We are also hoping to use data collected from the simulation sessions to explore research questions related to acute resuscitation education and simulation in medical school. Students interested must commit to all sessions. Should interest exceed capacity, interested students will be selected at a first come, first served basis. Those who demonstrated interest but who were not selected, may be invited to participate in learning sessions later in the year. Registration closes at 23:59 on Tuesday, September 22nd. Through the work of the EDI Indigenous Health Working group, the Indigenous Medical Students Association (IMSA) has been established and is now accepting applications for its inaugural 2026 council! IMSA was created by and for Indigenous medical students to build a safe, empowering, and culturally grounded community within medicine. The mandate of the group is focused on: * Supporting and uplifting Indigenous medical students through mentorship, wellness, and community building. * Advocating for Indigenous learners at the college, faculty, provincial, and national levels. * Collaborating with faculty and community partners on Indigenous health initiatives, including in areas of outreach, research, and wellness. * Amplifying Indigenous voices and working toward systemic change. Getting Involved with IMSA: The application to join the council is now live! Please see below for a list of available positions. These roles are available for medical students who self-identify as Indigenous. The General Member position is available to all students.
