Graduate Course Announcement (2019-2020)
There are two new courses being offered in the winter term 2020 that will be running back-to-back (see below and attachment for details). Both courses may be completed within the same term, or completed in two terms (winter 2020 and winter 2021). Registration is open to all graduate students enrolled in any Faculty/College/Department interested in Neuroscience from the Fort Garry or Bannatyne Campuses, and the St. Boniface Research Centre. Classes will take place in SR4, Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine Building/Bannatyne campus, unless otherwise indicated by the Course Director.
1) Human Brain Imaging Methods (IMED 7004)
This is a 1.5 credit hour course held on the Bannatyne Campus (Jan. 7, 2020 - Feb. 20, 2020). It will be of particular interest to graduate students whose research is in neuroscience. This course will provide an overview of the in vivo brain imaging methods and how imaging data are analysed (e.g., MRI and PET). Students will have opportunity to perform hands-on practice in computer labs with sample data.
The course has 2 components:
1. Lectures that will provide a systematic survey of different brain imaging modalities, and
2. Computer Laboratory sessions in which students will perform computer analysis using real brain imaging data.
2) Advanced Level Human Brain Imaging Methods (ANAT 7012)
This is a 1.5 credit hour course held on the Bannatyne Campus (Feb. 25, 2020 - Apr. 14, 2020). This course is intended for those graduate students who intend to broaden their skills in more advanced brain imaging methods that was not covered in the Human Brain Imaging Methods (IMED 7004). Students may take both IMED 7004 and ANAT 7012 back-to-back within the same semester, or wait until the next year(s) when it is offered again.
The course has 2 components:
1. Lectures/student presentation: systematic survey of different brain imaging modalities and analytic methods, and
2. Computer Laboratory sessions: students will perform computer analysis using real brain imaging data including machine learning.
