Manitoba Student Aid update

Hello all, I have been in discussions with UM's Student Enrolment office, which is the office that liases with Manitoba Student Aid. The issue that BMid students are being assessed at an 80% full time equivalent, when applying for loans, is being worked through. I am aware the loan application for spring/summer term opened last week and have been advised you will very likely be assessed at 100%. I will confirm this soon. I expect to have more information about this towards the end of this week. Thanks for your patience, and my sincere apologies this has been an ongoing issue. Please see the information below College of Nursing x NSA Yeti Tumblers We are happy to announce that NSA will be having Yeti Tumblers available for preorder on Friday June 14! Keep an eye out on the NSA Instagram and Website for when the sale is live. Preorder will only be available for a limited time so make sure you get yours! Merch Sale Thank you to all students who filled out the merch survey! We took all your ideas and thoughts into consideration for the next merch order. Merch is currently in the works and we hope to have a sale coming up in July! Keep posted for more information. Code White Social NSA will be hosting the Code White Social during reading week! There is a poster attached to this email so please take a look! Where: The Village, 206 Osbourne St. When: Friday June 21st from 10pm-2am. Dress Code: Wear White! The theme is glow in the dark, glowsticks necklaces and bracelets will be provided! 4th Year Community Donations

Hello Students, Please see the message below on behalf of the Agape Table. Please be aware of other community donation initiatives in front of the NSA office (Including mestrual products and non perishable food items)! Dear Nursing Students, We hope this message finds you well. We are a group of four fourth-year nursing students currently completing our community rotation at Agape Table, an organization that provides essential support to many individuals in our community. Over the past few weeks, we have had the privilege of working closely with the guests at Agape Table, witnessing firsthand the challenges they face daily. As future healthcare providers, we are deeply committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. We believe that community is essential, and it's crucial for us to support and take care of each other. One of the most requested items at Agape Table is water bottles, especially with the hot summer months approaching. Adequate hydration is vital for everyone, and we want to ensure that all our guests have access to clean, refreshing water. To address this need, we are raising funds to purchase a pallet of Kirkland water bottles from Costco, which contains 48 cases of water. The funds we raise will be used directly to buy and deliver these water bottles to Agape Table. We have set up a GoFundMe page, ensuring that the money will be sent straight to Agape Table, making the process transparent and straightforward. We are reaching out to the nursing student body to ask for your support in this important endeavor. Every contribution counts, and together we can make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community. Presenter: Ms. Stephanie Lelond, RN, MN, CHPCN(C), CNS, CancerCare Manitoba, Instructor II, College of Nursing, UM; Director-at-Large: Advocacy and Policy, Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology Title: Finding new models of care to support patient centered care and improved health system management in health disparities. ZOOM LINK: https://ca01web.zoom.us/j/67104256163?pwd=WDlFV3lQWk9QWTlvamtYVEV2K0VDZz09 Abstract: Patients with advanced cancers have been disproportionately affected by an almost 20% increase in postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled appointments related to their cancer diagnosis and treatment, compared to those diagnosed with earlier stage disease. Pancreatic, esophageal, and hepatobiliary cancers are known for heavy symptom burden and rapid disease progression necessitating expedited, rather than delayed, access to appropriate health services. CancerCare Manitoba has instituted an early palliative care program allowing access to symptom management, information on diagnosis, prognosis, potential treatment options and eligibility, health system navigation, and discussion of goals of care and advance care planning, from the time of referral to the cancer centre. This new model of care in advanced cancers began with pancreatic cancer and is expanding. Patients report an excellent standard of patient centered care and data shows decreased unwanted invasive procedures and appointments alongside increased access to the support best aligning with patients’ goals of care.
