The student initiative fund was created to assist in funding various student led activities that benefit the student body including: 1. Capital Projects 2. Furnishings and/or equipment purchases 3. Lectureships 4. Library resources 5. Research 6. Student Awards 7. Student Competitions (Cost associated with travel to and presenting at) Proposals that fall outside of the above-mentioned categories may be granted! NSA October-By-Election - Voting now Open!

Hello Nursing Students, This is a friendly reminder that voting for the Nursing Students’ Association (NSA) By-Election is now open! All undergraduate students in the College of Nursing are eligible to vote. The election runs from today, October 24th until Tuesday, October 28 at 4:00 p.m. You should have already received an email from UMSU with a personalized voting link. Please check your inbox (and junk folder, just in case) and cast your vote before the deadline! If you didn’t have a chance to run in this By-Election, not to worry, the Annual Election in April will have all positions open again. In the meantime, we’d love for you to stay involved by joining our Events Committee ( kindly email zaballem(a)myumanitoba.ca for more information on how to be a part of this committee). Donation to Agape Table

Dear Nursing Students, We are Year 4 nursing students currently completing our community clinical at Agape Table in the Spence neighborhood. Agape Table is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to reducing food insecurity and supporting marginalized individuals and families through its free bagged lunch and food bank programs. According to the 2021 Census, 36.6% of residents in the Spence neighborhood live on a low income, compared to the Winnipeg average of 11.5%. Since the pandemic, the need for food assistance has increased significantly, and Agape Table now serves approximately 900 meals each weekday (0700–1100) to community members in need. As winter approaches, many guests who socialize outdoors after receiving their meals face additional challenges in the cold. To help meet their needs, we are organizing a Winter and Hygiene Essentials Donation to support them with dignity and compassion. We are collecting the following items: winter jackets, boots, toques, mitts, socks, duvets, blankets, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, menstrual care products, and hair brushes. The donation drive will run from October 9th - 31st with two donation bins (one for winter essentials and one for hygiene essentials) located outside the NSA office on the main floor of Helen Glass. Free Leadership Opportunity - Gocernance Workshop

Community Hygiene Drive

Dear Nursing Students, We’re reaching out on behalf of two 4th-year nursing students, who are completing their community clinical rotation with the Spence Neighbourhood Association. As part of their community outreach project, they are organizing a Hygiene Drive to support children and youth who access the Spence Neighbourhood Association’s overnight shelter. Donations collected will go directly toward providing essential hygiene items to those in need. The Spence Neighbourhood Association’s WE24 (West End 24Safe Space) Program is a shelter that runs from 11pm to 7am, seven days a week. This unique program offers a safe space to children and youth 12-26 years old that are facing homelessness in the downtown area. The program services 15-20 individuals a night and provides them with meals and shelter. Children and youth that use the shelter are also provided with basic hygiene products. Your support can make a meaningful difference! If you’d like to contribute, please consider donating new, unused hygiene items such as: * Toothbrushes and toothpaste * Soap and body wash * Shampoo and conditioner * Deodorant * Feminine hygiene products * Towels and washcloths * New underwear * New socks We will be collecting donation from October 14th to November 4th. There is a donation bin set up outside of the 2nd floor nursing lounge in Helen Glass. Dear Students, The Immunization Program at The Link: Youth and Family Supports will be hosting their annual Flu/COVID Clinic on November 13th and 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days. They are seeking nursing, midwifery, and nurse practitioner students who are interested in volunteering to administer vaccines.
