The model that emerged from the study demonstrated that nurses' primary goal in ACP is facilitating conversations aimed at ensuring resident comfort. Achieving this goal involves navigating a complex interplay of individual, interpersonal, organizational, and systemic factors. It was the first Canadian study to illustrate the micro- and macro-perspectives of ACP through the dual lens of Symbolic interactionism and the socio-ecological model. A multitude of implications for the healthcare system and future research arose from this study, specifically with regard to practice, education, research, and policy development. I am emailing to notify you that the voting period for the NSA October By-Election will be taking place from October 23-25th via Simply Voting online voting software. This also means that the nomination period for the election is now open. Why Join NSA? Getting involved with NSA is a great way to meet other College of Nursing students and faculty members. It is also a great way to sharpen your leadership, team work and professional development skills, and is a great thing to have on your resume! Attend Orange Shirt Day at the College of Nursing!

Hello students, faculty, and staff. We would like to formally invite you all to the 10th annual Orange Shirt Day event hosted by the Nursing Students Association and the College of Nursing. The event is taking place this week on Friday September 27th, from 9:45am-1:00pm! What is the Orange Shirt Day at the College of Nursing? The Orange Shirt Day event at the College of Nursing was created on the foundations of reconciliation and awareness of the history and impact of residential school systems in Manitoba. The event unites the University of Manitoba student and staff community with Indigenous Elders, Chiefs, and guest speakers to learn from the past (Residential School System) and the important role each and everyone of us play in truth/reconciliation. Various speakers from our academic community also attend including Elder Norman Meede, Dean of the College of Nursing, and the President of University of Manitoba. An annual walk also occurs, which this year will be from Helen Glass to the administration building. Following, a fellowship lunch/feast is held at the College of Nursing where student, staff, and UM community members can create connections with Indigenous peoples in our community. Please see the programming schedule attached to the email. We hope to see you there! The topic for the day captures the complexities and interconnections inherent in the field of planetary health with two opportunities to discuss the topic of sustainability at the keynote address at 10:00 AM and a panel discussion at 2:00 PM. Dr Astle is an internationally recognized Professor and Director for the Master of Science in Nursing Program at Trinity Western University, Langley, British Columbia. Her program of research focuses on health equity, social justice, human rights, and albinism building upon her research in global / planetary health.
