We would like to formally invite you all to the 10th annual Orange Shirt Day event hosted by the Nursing Students Association and the College of Nursing. The event is taking place this week on Friday September 27th, from 9:45am-1:00pm!
What is the Orange Shirt Day at the College of Nursing?
The Orange Shirt Day event at the College of Nursing was created on the foundations of reconciliation and awareness of the history and impact of residential school systems in Manitoba. The event unites the University of Manitoba student and staff community with Indigenous Elders, Chiefs, and guest speakers to learn from the past (Residential School System) and the important role each and everyone of us play in truth/reconciliation. Various speakers from our academic community also attend including Elder Norman Meede, Dean of the College of Nursing, and the President of University of Manitoba. An annual walk also occurs, which this year will be from Helen Glass to the administration building. Following, a fellowship lunch/feast is held at the College of Nursing where student, staff, and UM community members can create connections with Indigenous peoples in our community.
