Hello Nursing Students,
Happy New Year! We hope you’re doing well and had a restful and restorative Winter Break.
My name is Ashley Woods, and I am one of the CanU Representatives for the Nursing Students Association (NSA). We are currently seeking volunteers to support our upcoming CanU Nursing Event on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 18:00–19:30 in the Helen Glass Skills Lab at the College of Nursing. We will be teaching high school students Grades 11-12 for this event.
What is CanU?
CanU is a Winnipeg-based charitable mentorship program for youth in Grades 5–12, run here at the University of Manitoba. Each week, 500+ youth from 65+ Winnipeg schools attend CanU programming, supported by 800+ volunteers across the city. CanU Nursing brings this mission into healthcare outreach by engaging youth in interactive clinical learning and inspiring future health leaders.
Why Volunteer with CanU Nursing?
Volunteering is a meaningful way to contribute to your community, connect with fellow nursing students, and strengthen your confidence in teaching and clinical skills.
As a CanU Nursing volunteer, you will:
* Guide youth through hands-on clinical scenarios and foundational nursing skills
* Collaborate with UM nursing students and NSA members
* Receive co-curricular credit from the University of Manitoba
* Gain valuable experience working with youth — a strong asset for your resume
* Have your hours recorded toward volunteer experience records
* Enjoy flexible evening scheduling that avoids exam periods, reading week, and holidays
