This Open Education Week<https://oeweek.oeglobal.org/>, the University of Manitoba will be hosting a speaking event featuring keynote Kayla Lar-Son, who will join us by Zoom with a talk titled Reflections of amiskwaciy: Indigenous protocols in open education. Next, an in-person panel of OER users from the University of Manitoba will discuss their experiences with OER. Pizza and coffee will be provided for registrants.
Reflections of amiskwaciy: Indigenous protocols in open education
6 R's of Indigenous OER to provide an Indigenous focused framework for incorporating Indigenous Knowledges into openly-licensed teaching and learning materials. The R's are influenced by the FAIR/CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Sovereignty, OCAP, and were originally adapted from the 4 R's of First Nations and Higher Education and the UBC Longhouse Teachings. This talk discusses new developments in the 6 R's based on the presenters own refection and protocols.
Kayla Lar-Son is a member of the Metis Nation of Alberta, with mix Ukrainian heritage, and originally from Tofield Alberta. She holds a BA in Native Studies from the University of Alberta and an MLIS from the University of Alberta. She is the current Acting Head of the Xwi7xwa at the University of British Columbia.

* Dr. Julianne Doner, Linguistics
Julianne Doner is an instructor in the linguistics department at the University of Manitoba. She is currently developing an OER for a second-year linguistics course called The Linguistics Analysis of Word and Sentence Structures. She was also a co-author on the introductory linguistics OER Essentials of Linguistics, 2nd edition. Julie strives in her teaching and pedagogical materials to demystify the hidden curriculum, promote the intersection between social justice and linguistics, apply the principles of the universal design for learning, and incorporate Writing Across the Curriculum.
* Dr. Xinli Wang, Mathematics
Xinli Wang teaches entry-level math courses at the University of Manitoba.
Her teaching career in Canada began in 2016 after her family moved here from Singapore.
She is passionate about utilizing Open Educational Resources and Open Educational Practices in her teaching. Xinli also engages in educational research to incorporate evidence-based teaching methods into her classrooms. Currently, her primary interests include learning community, active learning in large classes, and alternative grading.
* Charlotte Moore, Education
Charlotte Moore (she/her) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba, where she is studying the experiences of neurodivergent graduate students. Before her time at the University of Manitoba, she taught writing at the university level in the United States. In her free time, Charlotte edits Wikipedia. She has created over 450 articles and improved many, many more.

Hello all,
The next session of the OER community of practice will be a casual Q&A about adoption and adaption of OERs on February 16th at 10 am, facilitated by librarian Janice Winkler and educational developer Iwona Gniadek. Please come prepared with a question or two to ask them and the group!
We will once again meet in the Icelandic Reading Room on the 3rd floor of the Elizabeth Dafoe Library.
