[cid:image001.png@01DAE7EB.0E5A9840] This message is sent on behalf of Dr. Hans-Joachim Wieden, Associate Vice-President (Partnerships, Knowledge Mobilization, and Innovation) We are excited to announce, building on last years success, the return of the Undergraduate Research Showcase (URS)https://umanitoba.ca/research/opportunities-support/undergraduate-research-showcase, providing undergraduate students with the opportunity to showcase the exciting and innovative research they have conducted over the past year. Events like this are critical parts of the interdisciplinary fabric of our University and contribute to the multimodal and experiential learning environment for our students. The success of the Undergraduate Research Showcase (URS)https://umanitoba.ca/research/opportunities-support/undergraduate-research-showcase strongly depends on volunteers, especially judges. I am writing you today to ask if you would be interested in becoming part of the 2024 edition of the URS and volunteer a few hours of your time to assist us with judging this year's competition.
We are offering 2 streams of competition and judging; Oral presentation and Poster presentation.
* In the Oral presentation, students will have a maximum of 3 minutes to explain/describe their research project in any means/media format of their choosing. i.e Oral presentations, PowerPoint presentations, 3-D demonstrations, videos, etc. * In the Poster presentation, students will set up a poster displaying their research and will present their poster to the judges during a scheduled time. The details of this year's competition are as follows: Date: Thursday, October 24, 2024 Location: Multipurpose Room, UMSU University Centre (Rooms 210 to 224) Time: The judging will take place between 10:00am and 3:00pm, but judges will be assigned a 2-hr window of time closer to the event. For both the Oral and Poster presentation formats, judges will be asked to evaluate approximately 4 to 6 students within their preferred format and category. Instructions and an assessment grid will be provided.
The students will compete for a total of $6,500 in cash prizes, split across five categories: Applied Sciences, Creative Works, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Humanities.
