A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the newly established group of Dr. Isabel Bäurle at the John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK (Disease and Stress Biology Department). The successful applicant will join a team studying the role of epigenetic mechanisms in the long-term adaptation to abiotic stress with a focus on the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The successful applicant will perform mutagenesis screens in Arabidopsis to identify components involved in long-term adaptation to abiotic stress, characterise the mutants phenotypically and molecularly, and positionally isolate the affected genes. The post holder will also perform expression and chromatin state analyses, transgene construction and generation of transgenic plants.
Applicants will hold a PhD in a relevant area of biology (e.g. genetics or molecular biology). We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in basic research questions, the demonstrated ability to independently and efficiently organise their work and the readiness to learn new techniques and keep up with a large amount of literature. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential as the post holder will work closely with the group leader and other members of the team.
Salary on appointment will be within the range *£26,088 to £28,986* per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a two year limited term contract.
