Degree Requirements * Complete two courses, 6CH (see below) * Minimum grade of "B" * Expected Time to Completion: 1 academic year IMMU 7000 Science Communication: Foundations & writing methodologies (3 CH) Provides an overview of the primary methodologies governing science communication writing. * Offered: Fall 2023 IMMU 7010 Science Communication: Audio-video methodologies (3 CH) Provide an overview of the primary audio-visual methodologies used for science communications. * Offered: Winter 2024 Admission Requirements The Micro-Diploma in Science Communication is only available to students currently registered in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba in one of the listed graduate programs. Applicants are required to provide a written sample (maximum 250 words) or video segment (maximum 120sec) of the topic of their choice (science-related) as part of their application materials. A selection committee will review all applications and notify applicants no later than July 15 if they are successful. Successful applicants require written permission from their home department to enroll in the Micro-Diploma (email is sufficient). The Micro-diploma in Science Communication is a stand-alone program requiring you to complete a new application and provide a $100 non-refundable application fee. The tuition fees will be assessed the undergraduate per credit hour rate (medicine). ASIST - Learn the Skills. Help to save a life. Suicide ASIST Workshop Due to generous funding, Student Services at Bannatyne Campus is excited to offer RFHS students the opportunity to attend an evidence-based suicide prevention and intervention workshop, free of charge! Suicide ASIST(r) is an interactive, two-day, in-person workshop. Through attendance, you will learn how to prevent suicide in your community by recognizing signs, providing skilled interventions, and developing safety plans with persons at risk of suicide. Trained facilitators will guide you through the course, answer your questions, and support your learning process. This workshop welcomes first-time participants as well as past attendees looking for a refresher. When: Monday, May 29th and Tuesday May 30th from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (attendance at both days of the training is mandatory to receive certification) Where: RM 405 Brodie Centre - Bannatyne Campus Hosted by: Student Services at Bannatyne Campus Cost: FREE! Professor Dawson is an expert on assessment in higher education and his research focuses on feedback and cheating, predominantly in digital learning contexts. He will be sharing insights on assessment as it relates to the scholarship of teaching and learning and will also facilitate a SoTL workshop that is open to all attendees. We also welcome Dr. Melanie Hamilton, Director of the Jane and Ron Graham Centre for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at the University of Saskatchewan. The Graham Centre offers a master's degree in SoTL and will launch a new PhD in Education SoTL Stream in Fall 2023, both of which are the first of their kind in Canada. Dr. Hamilton is Chair of SoTL Canada and the VP Canada for the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSoTL) and will discuss her experience building an institutional culture of engagement in SoTL.

Call for Applications – Madame Yiching Zheng Kao Memorial Scholarship

Dear College of Medicine graduate students: This email is to draw your attention to the Madame Yiching Zheng Kao Memorial Scholarship. Professor Kwan Chi Kao established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba in memory of his wife, Madame Yiching Zheng Kao with an initial gift of $10,000. This fund was established to reward graduate students in the College of Medicine who are conducting research in the area of breast cancer. Each year, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who: (1) is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a Masters or Doctoral program delivered by a department in the Max Rady College of Medicine; (2) has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; and (3) has demonstrated excellence in the area of breast cancer research. In the event that there is no eligible candidate who meets all of the criteria outlined above, the award will be offered to a student who meets criteria (1), (2), and who has demonstrated excellence in the area of cancer research. Please see the Terms of Reference (TORs; attached) for further details.
