We are pleased to share with you the official launch of the PS752 Commemorative Scholarship Program. Canada's Flight PS752 Commemorative Scholarship Program will disburse 176 scholarships, averaging $25,000 per scholarship. International and Canadian students attending colleges and universities in Canada will be eligible to apply if their field of study aligns with the victims' academic or professional backgrounds or focuses on the prevention of air disasters. Upcoming ADHD Support Group - Student Services at Bannatyne Campus

Good afternoon, Student Services at Bannatyne Campus (SSBC) is launching an in-person Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Support Group for learners of Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and the Inner-City Social Work program. Please share widely amongst your students and contacts. The ADHD Support Group is being offered Tuesdays from 4 - 6 pm at the Bannatyne Campus, from October 24 - November 14, 2023. What is ADHD? ADHD is a highly heritable chronic neurodevelopmental disorder that affects approximately 5% of adults across all genders, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Adults with ADHD often experience pedagogical barriers in post-secondary institutions because of their ability to coordinate Executive Functioning. Executive Functioning skills are responsible for things like task initiation, focus/paying attention, organization, planning, time management, working memory (ability to process and retain information), inhibition, and emotional regulation. While differences with attention, impulsivity and hyperactivity can make surviving academia extra challenging, people with ADHD also often have traits that add value to our world like creativity or "being able to think outside the box", passionate, loyal, excellent experiential learners, and the ability to maintain a high level of focus and dedication on the subjects that matter to them. What will it be like? This group is discussion-based, participatory and is facilitated by a counsellor from SSBC. Each of the four 2-hour sessions will involve a check-in, information and/or resource sharing, discussion and reflection, and time to try out various strategies and/or techniques chosen by the group. Who can register? This group is for Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and Inner-City Social Work students who identify as having ADHD/Executive Functioning challenges via self-assessment, MD assessment, or a formal psycho-educational diagnosis and are interested in connecting with other students, reflecting on their own experiences, and trying out some new strategies. * Participating in this group will not provide students an ADHD Assessment or Diagnosis. * We are hoping to offer another group in 2024 - please contact us to add your name to the waitlist. The Winnipeg Foundation Martha Donovan Fund is a $250,000 fund intended to provide leadership development awards for women in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. If you're a female student, post-doc or resident, or a full- or part-time academic faculty member, you can apply until November 1, 2023. Good morning, Student Services at Bannatyne Campus (SSBC) has a free workshop opportunity for learners of Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and the Inner-City Social Work program. Please see the attached poster for the upcoming Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Skills Workshop offered by Student Mental Health Services and SSBC. This workshop series offers learners an opportunity to learn skills for managing stress and maintaining self-care utilizing cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness strategies. The goal of the series is to build resilience and improve learners' capacity to manage stress in a healthy, adaptive way. The workshop series is comprised of eight 90-minute sessions delivered once weekly. The workshop will be delivered in-person at the Bannatyne Campus every Wednesday from October 4th to November 22nd, 2023 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. Registration is required and spaces are limited. Application deadline is Thursday, October 5, 2023 Catherine Eamer Cooke Memorial Fellowship The purpose of the fund is to provide research support to a medical student, resident, or graduate student who is performing a supervised research project, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, related to the ear. Each year, beginning in 2018-2019, the available annual interest from the fund will be used to award one fellowship to a student who: (1) is enrolled full-time in either: (i) the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Medical Education Program in the Max Rady College of Medicine, or (ii) the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a Master's or doctoral program delivered by the Max Rady College of Medicine; (2) has either: (i) maintained good standing in the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Medical Education Program, or (ii) achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) in the Faculty of Graduate Studies based on the previous 60 credit hours of study; (3) will be performing a supervised research project related to the ear; (4) has demonstrated outstanding interest or commitment to ear research. Candidates will be required to submit an application (maximum 250 words) to the Department of Otolaryngology, GB421-820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9, which includes the following information: the name of the applicant, the title of the research project, the objective and methods of the research, the research project budget; and a supporting letter from the faculty supervisor which includes a statement about how the student meets criterion (4) above. Discovery Day in Health Sciences - CALL FOR PRESENTERS

Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Discovery Day in Health Sciences University of Manitoba Thursday, November 9, 2023 In partnership with the University of Manitoba's College of Medicine, we are delighted to host this year's Discovery Day in Health Sciences on November 9. This national program encourages young people to explore exciting career options in the sciences. Each event features informative displays, a captivating keynote lecture, interactive workshops, and a thought-provoking career panel discussion. Over 250 secondary school students from across Manitoba are expected to attend. The objective of the day is to spark their interest in considering a future career in health care. Currently we are looking for presenters to host an engaging workshop in the morning and/or afternoon, or to take part in our Health Pros Tell All panel discussion. We welcome anyone with a passion for their field of study and an interest in outreach (faculty, researchers, clinicians, technicians, or grad/undergrad students) to join us in this exciting initiative to educate and engage curious minds. WORKSHOP PRESENTERS * Small interactive group sessions offer students the opportunity to learn more about a particular health care field from the presenters * Workshops take place 10:30 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 2:30 * Presenters can sign up for either or both time slots (same presentation with two different groups of high school students) * Presenters are responsible for their own room and AV bookings "HEALTH PROS TELL ALL" CAREER PANEL DISCUSSION * The moderated panel discussion comprises five health care academics/professionals from various fields who will each have three minutes to share with the entire audience the story of their journey from high school to present day * Q&A follows after all have spoken * The panel runs 2:45 - 3:30 PM These events are very well received by participants and are an important part of how they explore their career options.
