Dear graduate students and colleagues, The 2024/2025 Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Graduate Studentship Program is now open for applications. The RFHS Studentship is a partnered award, where ~60% of the funds come from the RFHS and ~40% comes from the advisor. The value of this year's awards is $20,000 for Master's students and $25,000 for PhD students. Students who currently hold the RFHS Studentship will receive the same increased amount starting in May 2025, pro-rated for the remainder of their studentship period. Attention!! Application deadline is Friday, October 4, 2024 Catherine Eamer Cooke Memorial Fellowship The purpose of the fund is to provide research support to a medical student, resident, or graduate student who is performing a supervised research project, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, related to the ear. Each year, beginning in 2018-2019, the available annual interest from the fund will be used to award one fellowship to a student who: (1) is enrolled full-time in either: (i) the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Medical Education Program in the Max Rady College of Medicine, or (ii) the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a Master's or doctoral program delivered by the Max Rady College of Medicine; (2) has either: (i) maintained good standing in the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Medical Education Program, or (ii) achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) in the Faculty of Graduate Studies based on the previous 60 credit hours of study; (3) will be performing a supervised research project related to the ear; (4) has demonstrated outstanding interest or commitment to ear research. Candidates will be required to submit an application (maximum 250 words) to the Department of Otolaryngology, GB421-820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9, which includes the following information: the name of the applicant, the title of the research project, the objective and methods of the research, the research project budget; and a supporting letter from the faculty supervisor which includes a statement about how the student meets criterion (4) above. Four 1.5 credit hour courses (2 Fall term; 2 Winter term) Tuesday and Thursdays, 3:00 -4:15 pm 'in person' delivery on RFHS campus IMED 7112 Fundamental Cellular Neurobiology Sept-Oct 2024 IMED 7114 Fundamental Neural Development and Plasticity Oct-Dec 2024 IMED 7116 Fundamental Systems Neuroscience Jan-Feb 2025 IMED 7118 Fundamental Neurobiology of Disease Mar-Apr 2025 None of these courses is a prerequisite to the others, so a student may choose to take some, or all of them. These courses are offered on a 2 year cycle. In this program, available funds from the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences (RFHS) will be used to supplement financial support for graduate students who are first, enrolled in thesis-based graduate programs within the RFHS, and second, holding stipends received from select external graduate salary programs (from May 2024 onward for the 2024-2025 financial year): * Faculty of Graduate Studies Graduate Enhancement of Tri-Agency Stipends (GETS); * University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF); * Tri-Council Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's or Doctoral Award (CIHR/NSERC/SSHRC). The Partnerships, Knowledge Mobilization & Office is hosting Dr. Paramita Basu from Applied Pharmaceutical Innovations (API),<https://appliedpharma.ca/> a non-for-profit life sciences incubator for a talk about how their organization can support life science commercialization in Manitoba. Dr. Basu is the Director of Programs & Ecosystem Development with API, an organization that: a) Has a network of scientists to support every stage of drug development; b) Provides end-to-end support for life sciences researchers and innovations; c) Provides business & regulatory support to bridge gaps between academic and industry; and d) Provides venture coaching among other services. API is very active investing in companies in the Prairies as a sponsor of the Life Sciences Investment Summit<https://appliedpharma.ca/initiatives/life-sciences-investment-summit/> alongside Startup TNT.
