MICRO-DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION (NEW)

Learn to communicate scientific research and research findings to a non-scientific audience through various media tools including verbal and written communiqué, social media and virtual/digital messaging in a way that is engaging, accurate and enhances confidence in science. News briefs, product and science concept descriptions, videos (animated, live-action, etc.), podcasts, public speaking/interviews are all covered in the micro-diploma in science communication.

UM on-line admissions only allows registration until June 1. We can have it manually changed so you can be registered for the 2023-24 academic term.

Degree Requirements * Complete two courses, 6CH (see below) * Minimum grade of "B" * Expected Time to Completion: 1 academic year

IMMU 7000 Science Communication: Foundations & writing methodologies (3 CH) Provides an overview of the primary methodologies governing science communication writing. * Offered: Fall 2023

IMMU 7010 Science Communication: Audio-video methodologies (3 CH) Provide an overview of the primary audio-visual methodologies used for science communications. * Offered: Winter 2024

Admission Requirements The Micro-Diploma in Science Communication is only available to students currently registered in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba in one of the listed graduate programs.

Applicants are required to provide a written sample (maximum 250 words) or video segment (maximum 120sec) of the topic of their choice (science-related) as part of their application materials. A selection committee will review all applications and notify applicants no later than July 15 if they are successful. Successful applicants require written permission from their home department to enroll in the Micro-Diploma (email is sufficient).

The Micro-diploma in Science Communication is a stand-alone program requiring you to complete a new application and provide a $100 non-refundable application fee. The tuition fees will be assessed the undergraduate per credit hour rate (medicine).
