[A blue and white background Description automatically generated] Message from Dr. Diane Hiebert-Murphy, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) January 8, 2026 Dear Deans, Directors, and University Librarian: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Support Fund provides opportunities for professors, instructors, and librarians to meaningfully engage in research projects that increase scholarly inquiry into pedagogy and learning, empowering learners, and reimagining engagement as stated in MomentUM: Leading Change Together, our strategic plan<https://umanitoba.ca/strategic-plan>. I am pleased to announce the 2026-2027 funding streams for SoTL Seed Projects and SoTL Major Projects are now open for applications. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Seed Project: This program is available to all full-time tenure track/tenured faculty and probationary/continuing instructors and librarians. It offers seed funding for SoTL research projects that investigate factors that influence student learning and advance the scholarship of teaching and learning. We are offering funds up to a maximum of $6,000 per project and approximately ten (10) projects will be funded. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Major Project: This program is available to all full-time tenure track/tenured faculty and probationary/continuing instructors and librarians. It offers funds to support SoTL research initiatives that influence student learning which are interdisciplinary and span across faculties, colleges, or schools. Projects that have previously received teaching and learning seed funding will be prioritized. We are offering funds up to a maximum of $25,000 per project with matching/in-kind contributions from the unit(s). Up to three (3) projects will be funded. The internal proposal deadline for each of the funding streams is March 20, 2026. Deans need to have an internal deadline as each proposal requires the signature and support of the dean/director/university librarian prior to submission. Proposals are expected to be submitted by the Dean's office. This will also provide an optional opportunity to rank proposals from each unit. The guidelines and application forms can be found on the Provost intranet<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-provost-vice-president-a…>. Proposals must be submitted to: SOTL(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:SOTL@umanitoba.ca> Please distribute this information to all scholars within your units, along with your internal deadline. I hope you will encourage, support, and identify potential applicants within your respective units. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Mark Torchia, Vice-Provost (Learning, Analytics, and Academic Infrastructure) at mark.torchia(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:mark.torchia@umanitoba.ca>. Cc: Dr. Mark Torchia
