Any member of the University of Manitoba community (faculty, student or staff) may nominate a faculty member for the Saunderson and Stanton Awards for Excellence in Teaching.
The internal Faculty submission deadlines: Monday, February 16, 2026 at 4:30 PM for the initial Executive Summary Friday, March 20, 2026 at 4:30 PM for the Full Nomination Package Please send your nominations to Dean.Environment@umanitoba.camailto:Dean.Environment@umanitoba.ca with the subject line “Nomination: Saunderson Award” OR “Nomination: Stanton Award”.

I am writing to announce the call for nominations for the 2026 Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Saunderson and the Olive Beatrice Stanton Awards for Excellence in Teaching.
The Olive Beatrice Stanton Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes faculty members who:
1. Demonstrate evidence of continuing teaching excellence, and 2. Have made significant contributions to teaching and learning at UM. The Award consists of a plaque and a monetary award of $7,500.
The Dr. And Mrs. H. H. Saunderson Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes faculty members who:
1. Demonstrate evidence of continuing teaching excellence, 2. Have made significant contributions to teaching at UM as well as nationally and internationally, and 3. Demonstrate success in educational leadership and higher education research and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. The Award consists of a plaque and a monetary award of $12,500.

The executive summary is due Monday, February 23, 2026 and the full nomination is due Monday, March 30, 2026.

Please consider nominating faculty members who have made a significant contribution to teaching excellence. Resubmission of updated previous applications are also welcome.
The Vice-Provostial Teaching Awards Committee looks forward to reviewing the nominations. Recipients will be announced at the Spring 2026 convocation.
(Please note: each Faculty/College/School may submit only one candidate for each award. The process for submission should ensure not only that nominees are identified, but that a strong match exists between the nominees’ achievements and the criteria for each award.)
