Bill C-5 and the (Re)Building of Canada (Act): Considering Our Obligations and Responsibilities When Working on Indigenous Lands Presented by Kakeka ThunderSky, Taylor Galvin, and Ben Linnick [cid:image001.png@01DC4296.FE4DEE40] October 28, 2025 6:00 pm Centre Space, John A. Russell Building Access to land is imperative to both Indigenous Nationhood and the Canadian nation-state; however, there remains irreconcilable tensions as expressed within Treaties, UNDRIP, and Sections 25 and 35 of the Constitution Act. The legacy of settler colonialism continues to build federal legislation that does not recognize land as having agency to advocate for itself and its desires. As such, Canada's recent enactment of Bill C-5 represents its ongoing paternalistic investments that prioritize expediency and efficiency between economic trade relations among provincial and territorial bodies. The passing of the Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act and the Building Canada Act raises questions about Canada's intentions, including their impacts on and consequences for Indigenous Nations, and their considerations of governance, consultation and access to always-already Indigenous Land and notions of "Land Back." Join us for a roundtable discussion with Kakeká ThunderSky, Taylor Galvin and Ben Linnick, local Indigenous activists who share their concerns with Bill C-5 and the (re)building of Canada that continues to serve "its" national interests and built environments.

Each entry will be submitted from various student groups and units within the Riddell Faculty, and they will be put on display in the Ed Leith Cretaceous Menagerie to be judged. Pumpkins will be put on display for voting from October 30 to October 31, and the winning pumpkin will be announced on October 31. NEW BIKE PARKING OPTION COMING SOON

Good afternoon, The Office of Parking & Transportation & Office of Sustainability have been working together closely on a new bike parking option and are happy to announce that there will soon be some new bike parking options available near your building. I would like to ask if you mind distributing the information below to students, faculty and staff who may be interested from your faculty and/or department? NEW BIKE PARKING OPTION COMING SOON A new shared bike pod will be installed adjacent to your building. These bike pods will be equipped with Bluetooth locks that can be conveniently unlocked using a smart phone app. Each pod has six accessible, secure, weather-resistant bike parking spaces. Although the pods provide an added layer of protection, cyclists are still advised to use their own locks to secure their bikes within the pod due to the shared design. Pod parking will be available for a small monthly fee and will be available for sale through the Parking Portal on a reoccurring credit card plan. Network Segmentation Nov 1st

Hello all, I just wanted to give another heads up that on November 1, 2025, IST is planning on switching the Wallace Network from it's current 10.80.x.x network scheme to the new 10.151.x.x network. What does this mean? All computers accessing the wired ethernet network will prompt the user to log in the same way one would log into UM Secure Wireless, with their UMNet ID and Password. Windows and Apple computers should give a pop up window after you log into your device asking for credentials to the 802.1x system. If you do not receive this popup after the switch, please let me know. Sinnott had their network change over October 1st, and while all of the workstations have changed over, their printers haven't, so I expect this to be similar for Wallace. There hopefully should not be any disruptions with printing, but I'll let you all know if that will change. I should be getting an excel sheet soon with all of our devices listed, and I will reach out to those who need a fixed IP for their devices, and pass that info along to IST. In this workshop you'll explore these questions alongside other members of the Riddell Faculty and learn about key principles of experiential learning pedagogy. About the presenter: Gerardo (Gera) is a Faculty Specialist in the Office of Experiential Learning at The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning. With a background in community engaged learning, travel programs, and classroom teaching, he supports faculties and instructors to integrate different types of experiential learning into courses and programs.

Dear Graduate Students, The Seven Oaks Game and Fish Association, through its endowment fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, is pleased to offer a scholarship to support graduate students pursuing studies in environmental and resource management at the University of Manitoba. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student who meets the following criteria: * Is entering or currently enrolled full-time in a master’s or doctoral program through the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources * Has achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study * Demonstrates research excellence in terrestrial and freshwater aquatic science, such as environmental science, wildlife management, aquatic resource management, fisheries, habitat management, water resources management, or limnology within Manitoba * Shows a commitment to environmental engagement/outreach in a public or professional capacity Preference will be given to students whose research promotes the conservation and protection of Manitoba’s natural resources, including soils, minerals, forests, water, wildlife, and fish habitats.
