Good afternoon, Registration is now open for the Sexual Violence Resource Centre's workshop, Responding to Sexual Violence Disclosures: A Guide for U of M Community. Responding to Sexual Violence Disclosures. During this in-person session staff from the Sexual Violence Resource Centre (SVRC) will provide information on the impacts of sexual violence and different services offered by the SVRC. Attendees will be provided guidance on how to provide compassionate and supportive responses when receiving a disclosure of sexual violence. During the session there will be opportunities to apply what is learned to different case examples and to practice confidentiality statements. Free Event | Arctic Resonance: Science, Film, Live Music + Q&A

Hi everyone, You’re warmly invited to Arctic Resonance, a free science communication event that brings together Arctic research, film, and live improvised music. Arctic Resonance is a collaboration between the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources and the Desautels Faculty of Music. The event features original visual material drawn from Arctic fieldwork and scientific research — including field videos from the Arctic, whale drone footage, eelgrass surveys, iceberg and sea ice model animations, and Arctic Ocean current visualizations — presented in a short film/documentary format. During the performance, students from the Desautels Faculty of Music’s eXperimental Improv Ensemble will create a live, improvised musical score in real time, responding to the visuals as they unfold. The goal is to explore new ways of communicating Arctic science in a more accessible, emotional, and engaging way through sound and image. Following the performance, there will be time for a Q&A and open discussion, where audience members are encouraged to ask questions about the research, the fieldwork, and the purpose behind the visual material and filming (e.g., drone footage, ecological surveys, and modeling outputs). 📍 Location: Desautels Concert Hall (150 Dafoe Road) 🕧 Time: January 23, 2026 at 12:30 PM 🎟️ Admission: Free and open to the community A poster with more details is attached. We invite you to submit an expression of interest (EOI) to be part of an event taking place March 4-5, 2026 at McGill University and the University of Calgary, Building Resilient Futures: Higher Ed’s Broader Purpose, co-sponsored by Universities Canada and the Sustainability in Higher Education Across Canada Network (SHEAC). The event represents the culmination of Universities Canada’s three-year Climate Initiative and will bring together small groups of researchers, practitioners, and university administrators (~30 at each location) from diverse institutions, organizations, and career stages to consider recommendations and tangible steps forward. Our central objective is to understand the role(s) Canadian higher education institutions must play in leading societal progress towards more resilient and regenerative futures. The main question we ask is: How can we leverage our collective institutional capacity to drive the change and innovation needed for climate-resilient and regenerative futures? To address that question, we seek participants to join a working group in one of three thematic areas: 1) Teaching and learning that creates action; 2) Community engagement that builds partnership; and 3) University governance that fosters institutional agility and innovation. Participants are expected to contribute to pre-work (e.g. review workshop materials, introductory team meeting) and a final report with recommendations for future action. In addition, rather than being simply a one-off event, we intend this gathering to be the start of an ongoing community of practice focused on climate action across sectors and domains. Participants will have the opportunity to remain engaged if they choose. This is an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students to be mentored full-time by a professor of their choice for 16 weeks during the summer of 2026, to receive a financial award of $7000, and to gain valuable research experience in their field of interest. The VPRI URA application period is between January 12 and February 16, 2026, and we are seeking your cooperation to function as a point of contact and potential research supervisor for students interested in your research, scholarly work, or creative activities. * Up to 205 URAs are available across all disciplines * 10 percent of awards are available for self-declared Indigenous students * 2 additional awards for community-based projects * Carry a monetary value of $7,000 * Are recognized on the UM Experience Record The application process requires each student to separately interview researchers and learn about the research, scholarly work, or creative activities that they are undertaking. I am pleased to announce the 2026-2027 funding streams for SoTL Seed Projects and SoTL Major Projects are now open for applications. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Seed Project: This program is available to all full-time tenure track/tenured faculty and probationary/continuing instructors and librarians. It offers seed funding for SoTL research projects that investigate factors that influence student learning and advance the scholarship of teaching and learning. We are offering funds up to a maximum of $6,000 per project and approximately ten (10) projects will be funded. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Major Project: This program is available to all full-time tenure track/tenured faculty and probationary/continuing instructors and librarians. It offers funds to support SoTL research initiatives that influence student learning which are interdisciplinary and span across faculties, colleges, or schools. Projects that have previously received teaching and learning seed funding will be prioritized. We are offering funds up to a maximum of $25,000 per project with matching/in-kind contributions from the unit(s). Up to three (3) projects will be funded. The internal proposal deadline for each of the funding streams is March 20, 2026. Deans need to have an internal deadline as each proposal requires the signature and support of the dean/director/university librarian prior to submission. Proposals are expected to be submitted by the Dean's office. This will also provide an optional opportunity to rank proposals from each unit. Good morning, Please see the attached memorandum from Dr. Tracey Peter, Vice-Provost (Academic Affairs), regarding the invitation for applications and nominations for the 2025 Merit Awards for members of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) bargaining unit. Unit heads are reminded to consider persons who may be away on leave and who might otherwise not be aware of their eligibility for this competition. Key Points: * Eligibility: Applicants/nominees must be UMFA members as of March 31, 2025. Only one award per person per year, and one per category in a three-year period. * Award Categories: * Teaching (up to 8 awards) * Research, Scholarly Work, and Other Creative Activities (up to 8 awards) * Service (up to 6 awards) * Any combination of the above (up to 8 awards) * Promoting Indigenous Achievement (up to 3 awards). * Application Process: * Submit applications via the MS Form link provided in the memo. * Required documents: Cover letter/letter of support, CV, and supporting documentation, all compiled into a single PDF (max 100mb). * No paper or email submissions will be accepted. * Deadline: All applications must be received by 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2026.
