* Here are updates on available funding opportunities. *
* 1. UM Internal Funding opportunities (FAAFs are NOT required for internal grant applications)
* UM/SSHRC Explore Grants Programhttps://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#um-sshrc-explore-grants-program – funding up to $10,000 (*NEW Increased Funding Limit*)
* Provides support for small-scale research projects in the social sciences and humanities. Open to researchers in SSHRC-supported activities. Successful applicants who do not hold a SSHRC grant will be expected to apply to the next appropriate SSHRC program competition normally within one year of the expiration of their UM/SSHRC Explore grant. UM/SSHRC Explore grant-holders who do not submit an application to a SSHRC competition within this timeframe may be ineligible from applying for future UM/SSHRC Explore funds.
* UM/SSHRC Exchange Grants Programhttps://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#um-sshrc-exchange-grants-program – funding up to $750 (within Canada), $1000 (USA), and $1500 (International)
* Provides support for researchers to participate in international conferences of major scholarly significance. Open to researchers in SSHRC-supported disciplines.
* University Research Grants Program (URGPhttps://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#um-sshrc-exchange-grants-program) – funding up to $10,000
* Stimulates and supports the growth of research at the university. April competition is for Established Faculty only. * Successful applicants, who do not hold a Tri-Agency (CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC) grant, are expected to apply to the next appropriate Tri-Agency (CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC) program competition normally within one year of the expiration of their URGP grant. URGP grant-holders who do not submit an application to a Tri-Agency competition within this timeframe may be ineligible from applying for future URGP funds. * The submission deadline for UM Internal Funding is April 1, 2026. *
* 2. Horizon Europe
* Decontaminate and bioremediate aquatic pollutionhttps://research.ad.umanitoba.ca/mrt/pubapp/umfo_view.php?id=4219 includes environmentally safe, locally-adaptable solutions for the bioremediation and decontamination of aquatic pollution in rivers, lakes, coasts, groundwater and at sea, including removal processes, management of degradation processes. Total Funding Available: €23M for 3 grants of €7-8M each Stage 1 Internal Application Deadline: March 26, 2026 Stage 1 Agency Application Deadline: April 16, 2026 by 5:00 pm CET (Brussels) Stage 2 Internal Application Deadline: September 2, 2026 Stage 2 Agency Application Deadline: September 23, 2026 by 5:00 pm CET (Brussels) * Horizon Europe has published its official 2026-27 work programs.
