In-line with the new process for external grants, the advertised November 17 deadline for internal grants should be considered the deadline for applicants to submit their complete Internal Grant package to the office of the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty for signature. Associate Deans (Research) should then forward applications to ORS no later than 4 business days following the deadline.

This email is to announce the Fall 2025 Internal Grants Competition. Please distribute to your fellow colleagues. Competition Deadline for all programs is 4:30 p.m., Monday November 17, 2025, submission to ORS (researchgrants@umanitoba.ca mailto:researchgrants@umanitoba.ca).
University Research Grants Program (URGP) https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#university-research-grants-program-%28urgp%29 – funding up to $15,000 (PILOT - Funding Increased for the Fall 2025 ECR URGP Competition Only) Stimulates and supports the growth of research at the university to enhance UM’s national competitiveness in terms of Tri-Agency research support. Fall URGP Competition is for New Faculty only *Note: URGP Eligibility* For purposes of this program New Faculty are defined as full-time academic faculty members who are within five years of the date of their first full-time appointment. New Faculty are eligible to receive up to three URGP awards in the five-year period during which they are defined as new faculty.

University Indigenous Research Program – Stream 1 Connection Grant (UIRP-C) UIRP-C provides funding for relationship-building activities with First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit communities. These relationships are essential prerequisites to undertaking research activities in collaboration with Indigenous communities and Peoples. The UIRP-C does not support research activities. Researchers with existing relationships may apply to the UIRP-Project (UIRP-P) opportunity or external funding opportunities to carry out a research project with an Indigenous community. Funding up to $20,000 for two years. (PILOT: Funding Increased for the Fall 2025 Competition Only)
University Indigenous Research Program – Stream 2 Project Grant (UIRP-P) UIRP-P provides funding for original, high quality research projects across all disciplines that may be a pre-requisite to long-term Tri-Agency support. Research for, with, and by Indigenous peoples is an important cross-cutting dimension of scholarship at UM. Funding up to $35,000 for three years. (PILOT: Funding Increased for the Fall 2025 Competition Only) An additional $5,000 may be requested for knowledge mobilization activities with a particular emphasis on translating research results into the Indigenous language(s) appropriate to the partner community(ies).
University Collaborative Research Program (UCRP) https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#university-collaborative-research-program-%28ucrp%29– funding up to $25,000 Supports new collaborative interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research projects.
University International Programs & Projects Seed Fund (UIPPSF) https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#university-international-programs-projects-seed-fund-%28uippsf%29– funding up to $5,000 Supports development of new international initiatives that contribute towards the University’s International Strategy objectives for academic and research enhancement.
UM/SSHRC Exchange Grants Program https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#um-sshrc-exchange-grants-program – funding up to $750 (within Canada), $1000 (USA), and $1500 (International) Provides support for researchers to participate in international conferences of major scholarly significance. Open to researchers in SSHRC-supported disciplines.
UM/SSHRC Explore Grants Program - https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#um-sshrc-explore-grants-program funding up to $10,000 Provides support for small-scale research projects in the social sciences and humanities. Open to researchers in SSHRC-supported activities. *Note: Funding will be available to award approximately 4 UM/SSHRC Explore Applications during this Fall 2025 Competition.
