Welcome back. The Institute is excited to introduce the 2024-2025 UMIH cohort.
We are welcoming three Research Clusters this year: Food Matters, organized by Dr. Jeongmin Kim (History); Writing Towards a Just World, organized by Dr. Jocelyn Thorpe (WGS/History); and Power and Resistance in Latin America, organized by Dr. Jorge Nállim (History).
The UMIH also welcomes two Undergraduate Student Interns: Alex Rana (ETFM) and Patrick Fermin (History)

Another Place: Building Trans Solidarity
October 1st at Ace Art Inc (206 Princess Street) from 7:00 PM CT Organized by U of W 2SLGBTQ+ Solidarity Committee, Aceartinc., and the Institute for Humanities To attend for FREE, register herehttps://www.uwinnipeg.ca/trans-solidarity/. At this event, performing and sound artists Hassan Ashraf, Mutable Body, Dasha Plett, Melody Mckiver, and M. Patchwork Monoceros will explore what "another place" might look like–intimacies found in rebellion and transmissions from utopias to come. The Institute for Humanities is thrilled to host Dr. L. Ayu Saraswati for a spotlight lecture on October 3rd from 3:30 - 4:30 PM CT in 409 Tier Building, on the topic of feminism, pain, and grief. Dr. Saraswati is an award-winning teacher, speaker, consultant, and professor of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Hawai'i. Dr. Saraswati will also facilitate a hands-on writing workshop on October 4th (10:00 am - 12:00 pm), on transnational feminist autoethnography. We look forward to sharing a poster and more details for this anticipated event soon.
Programming from the UMIH Research Clusters includes visiting lectures by Dr. Teresa Velasquez (California State University, San Bernardino) and Dr. Nancy Enstad (University of Wisconsin, Madison). Dr. Enstad's talk is scheduled on October 5th from 3-5 p.m. at 307 Tier Boardroom. We look forward to sharing more programming soon. Please look out for details in the coming weeks.
