Digital Public Scholarship: Benefits and Pitfalls

This online panel discussion, supported by the University of Manitoba Strategic Initiatives Fund, welcomes faculty from Canada and the United States to discuss their experiences sharing their academic work through digital platforms. The following panelists will offer advice useful to both faculty and students interested in learning more about the practices of digital research dissemination: Dr. Philip Chase (County College of Morris), Dr. Dorothy Kim (Brandeis University), Dr. Kim TallBear (University of Alberta), and Dr. Vanessa Warne (University of Manitoba). Paper, Scissors, Glue: Paper Quilling, Cobweb Cards, and Collage

Join us at our first UMIH Crafternoon of the winter term to deepen your knowledge of the importance of making and material culture to the humanities. We’re going to explore a trio of paper-based practices: paper quilling, three-dimensional card making, and collage. All materials and instruction provided; no registration required.
Imagining a Sack: Journeying with Ashley’s Sack

In partnership with the Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture, the UMIH invites you to attend a hands-on workshop engaging Tiya Miles’ All That She Carried. This workshop will be led by CCWOC Writer-in-Residence Dr. Sonja Boon. While Miles’ work is an inspiration for this event, no knowledge of her book is required. All materials will be supplied. Dr. Boon recommends participants bring along a copy of a book of importance to them. All are welcome to come and create.
Book Launch featuring UMIH Research Affiliate Dr. Youcef Soufi
Thursday, February 6; 2:30 - 4:00 PM; Tier 409
Please join us to celebrate the launch of Homegrown Radicals: A Story of State Violence, Islamophobia, and Jihad in the Post-9/11 World (NYU Press). At this event, Dr. Soufi will share an overview of and reading from his book. The event will include a moderated discussion. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

40th Annual J.W. Dafoe Political Studies Students’ Conference: Day Two
Thursday, January 30th; 10:00 AM- 2:30 PM; 2nd floor UMSU
The day’s events include three panels: UN Peacekeeping, 10:00 – 11:15am; UN of the Present and Future, 11:30 – 12:30pm; Keynote Address by Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, followed by Davos style Q&A with Dr. Andrea Charron, 1:00 – 2:30pm.
