Book presentation and discussion, "The Secret of the Ravens"

Local comics artist Joanna Cacao will discuss her work as a cartoonist and her YA fantasy comic The Secret of the Ravens.

Grief in the Open- A Community Panel and Workshop

Date: November 29th, 2-5pm, Creative Manitoba (300-245 McDermot Avenue), 4th Floor Classroom

In this discussion on grief, community members and experts will reflect on how our society expects us to carry sorrow in silence. Together, it will explore the power of grieving collectively, an ancient practice in many cultures, and invite you to bring your own grief into this shared space of remembrance. Grief is not something you move on from, it is something you move with. The hope is that you will leave this space feeling empowered, and refreshed with purpose and peace. There will be a quiet space available during the day for those who need time to reflect.

Format: Panel conversation + guided discussion + Q&A + collaborative art ritual. This workshop is FREE to attend but you must register in advance. In this presentation, Gregory Jones-Katz will explore the early cultural and intellectual contexts of Dungeons & Dragons, today widely recognized as the beating heart of the role-playing game industry. In particular, he will historicize the biographies and writings of D&D's creators, E. Gary Gygax (1938-2008) and Dave Arneson (1947-2009), and other figures, like Muhammad Abd al-Rahman Barker (1929-2012).
