It is true that Epiinfo 6 would read a .rec with some errors, the type of error you describe will probably prevent you from getting the data you want out of the .rec file.
This problem usually arises because a file has been edited and some record lengths changed or from the introduction of some random characters with a disk error. I have always been able to reconstruct .rec files using a plain text editor like the old Windows Notepad. Even better is a programmer's editor (there are many) that can identify the end of each line in case you have a line with more than 80 characters in the data section (e.g. some spaces beyond the !).

Dear Dr Thambu To my knowledge, the Epidata Manager is still at its test version. So, it's better to use the existing Epidata Entry (or Epi Info) for your research data until Epidata Manager work properly. You can get documentation at http://www.epidata.dk. Best wishes

Dear all It is true that test versions oé the new manager and entryclient are available from http ://www.epidata.dk/testing.php But it is also true that the new versions can be used for datasets with real data. That is without relational structure. Any file which you download from the ordinary page : Http://www.epidata.dk/download.php is for routine use. If in doubt with any software - including epidata - always make a small test. But do so with a release version. Not with a test version. Regards jens Lauritsen Epidata association

It would be great to have the relational structure in the new versions. In my case is very helpful because I work using some demographic considerations as the house information with another other information about the people that live that house.
In a relational structure I can know what kind of the people information is related with the house information, and so on. As doing a hierarchic analysis.

For the coming implementation of relational data structures (next months - 6 months) we need a few dedicated users for closer collaboration. Preferably some of you who would also like to work with development of a field guide for this (in the wiki) and for the testing of pre-release versions.
It is always such that those who sign up for such tasks also will be as well accredited and have influence on final design - within the constraints of the software, e.g. we do not wish to implement web interface or multi-user aspects.
Please inform me of such interest on info (at) epidata.dk - I will then contact you directly.

The new software has been released for general use. There are also test versions available, so be sure to use the "stable release" for real work. This is the version you get at the top of the download page.
In addition to the brief manuals available on the download page of epidata.dk, I prepared a short tutorial for a course last year. It was pretty simple as I just wanted the class to understand what the new Manager and Entry Client would look like.
