Human Rights Go Local – What works? “From Intentions to Commitments: Towards the Effective and Sustainable Implementation of Human Rights”
Taking place virtually from 1 to 8 February 2022
Cities and municipalities are the public authorities closest to their citizens. Therefore, it is crucial to foster and implement human rights at the local level to ensure that no one is left behind. What are concrete ways for local governments and stakeholders to strengthen their commitment to human rights?
This year’s participatory, multi-day Academy brings together human rights players and local authorities to discuss which frameworks, tools and best practices really help local authorities deepen their commitment to human rights. We seek to collect lessons learnt, stimulate developments that help respect, protect, and fulfil human rights, and will elaborate recommendations for local governments on how to realize human rights commitments. These elaborations will be presented to high-level stakeholders at the final Conference on 8 February 2022.
We especially encourage applications from academic experts with experience in human rights practice. Further, we are eager to welcome members of the next generation (young professionals, researchers and students) who are interested in pursuing a career in human rights and in gaining expertise on the subject.
