Attn: All staff with supervisor responsibilities
As part of the RFHS talent management plan implementation for all support staff in Rady, the four LOD courses listed below are required for anyone that is in a position that supervises employees. Please ensure you sign up for these courses.
These courses will specifically be offered in person at Bannatyne. Our Fort Garry staff will have access to the same courses at Fort Garry through the LOD website.
LOD has now opened registration for most of our workshops in January and February, which includes one offering each of the four workshops that LOD will be offering exclusively for employees of Rady FHS. **The second offerings of these workshops will be available in March / April.
January 23 Introduction to Management (full day workshop, this offering is Online via Webex)
January 31 Critical Dialogues
February 7 Managing Hybrid Teams (this offering is Online via Webex)
February 28 Managing the Respectful Workplace
Each of the exclusive workshops requires a registration access code. The code is: RFHS23
To register, visit: https://umanitoba.gosignmeup.com/Public/Course/Browse and search by the title of workshop or scroll through to the date.
Each of these workshop descriptions includes the line "NOTE this offering is exclusively for UM support staff of RFHS", although RFHS employees are welcome to register for regular offerings, if that better meets their schedule.
Employees will need to create an account in LODReg, if they don't already have one, using their @umanitoba email address. All that is required to create an account is your name, unit, email address and office phone. The username must be the employee's @umanitoba email address.
We look forward to supporting further learning and development for our supervisors.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Lisa Wong

Dear Colleagues,
As you may have heard, there is a post on social media claiming that one of our nursing students was suspended for “criticizing Israeli violence against Palestinians.” The message is encouraging a letter writing campaign and various UM email accounts have received several hundred emails as a result. We do not intend to respond to these emails given the volume and that the majority are from outside the university community.
I am providing the following messages that you can use to respond to potential concerns raised by students:
The University of Manitoba does not suspend students for exercising freedom of speech. UM follows a robust and rigorous process to review matters of academic and non-academic misconduct<%5bhttps:/umanitoba.ca/governance/sites/governance/files/2021-09/Student%20Non-Academic%20Misconduct%20and%20Concerning%20Behaviour%20Procedure%20-%202021_09_01.pdf%5d> and adheres to several policies and procedures including our Respectful Workplace and Learning Environment Policy <https://umanitoba.ca/governance/sites/governance/files/2021-06/Respectful%2…> and Violent and Threatening Behaviour Policy<%5bhttps:/umanitoba.ca/sites/default/files/2021-01/violent_or_threatening_behaviour_policy_-_2020_03_09.pdf%5d>.
Decisions are made only after careful consideration of the circumstances and evidence. Any student facing an allegation of misconduct is offered the support from our Student Advocacy Office<https://umanitoba.ca/student-supports/academic-supports/student-advocacy> to navigate the process, and always has an opportunity to appeal. The suspension of a student found in breach of our misconduct policies for multiple terms, or a full academic year is a common penalty for more serious violations.
Out of respect for privacy, UM cannot provide details specific to disciplinary cases. Every student who is suspended receives a detailed letter outlining the reasons for their suspension.

Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts in the Workplace Culture Survey earlier in summer. It was helpful to gain your perspectives on the current environment at the College of Nursing and how we can further promote a positive workplace culture.
Please find attached the summary report from the survey. The Leadership team would like to better understand these results in order to effectively engage in enhancing the workplace environment. As such, the Workplace Culture committee has been asked to host consultation sessions to gather more detailed perspectives from you in relation to the two main themes that emerged: i) a desire for more communication, transparency, and discussion around day-to-day processes and decisions in the CON; and ii) increasing presence/engagement of faculty and staff.
Please join us to engage in an open group discussion about what we want these aspects of our workplace environment to look like and how we can get there!
Instructors and Tenure-Track Faculty:
Wednesday November 22nd at 12:00pm (in-person Room 326 Helen Glass)
Thursday November 30th at 2:00pm (MS Teams)
*feel free to attend one or both sessions
Support Staff:
Monday November 27th at 2:00pm (in-person Room 218 Helen Glass)
Directors and Administration Team:
Monday December 4th at 3:00pm (in-person Room 218 Helen Glass)
