If you are interested in using 342 and 343 in the Ag building due to the loss of facilities at the Point, please contact Plant Science Reception plant_science(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:plant_science@umanitoba.ca> so we can organize the needed space.
Please keep in mind that you would need to clean the entire area used following your work. You would also need to be out of the space at least 15 minutes prior to these times, so that TA’s and instructors can prepare for the class.
To use these spaces a complete cleanup is mandatory and that pesticides, i.e. pesticide treated seeds are not to be worked on in these rooms.
Thanks,
Rob

Good Afternoon,
The department has recently received notice from Architectural and Engineering Services (AES) that we will not be able to use several of the buildings (seed storage, processing and drying, the white house and equipment storage/garages) along the riverbank come March 31, 2023 and for the duration of the high-water period.
We will have an opportunity to develop a safe work plan that will allow us access to these spaces during the high-water period (based upon the spring). Once the water has receded to normal levels, another geotechnical engineering assessment will be conducted. If approved, we should be able to use the buildings as normal during periods of normal water levels.
We understand this is very unfortunate news being delivered with little notice. However, we will be working with AES and Risk Management to develop the short term work plan for this spring. We will also be working with the Faculty and the Campus Planning Office to work towards a long-term plan.
We apologize for sending this information by email, but we wanted to make sure that accurate information was available as soon as possible to all users. Our hope is we can discuss this a bit further at the Technicians meeting tomorrow at 8:45am (room 218). We will not have all the answers at this time, but we will keep you updated as further information is available and as the safe work plan for access during high-water is developed.
Regards,
Rob

Subject: Please send this Urgent Safety Concern to Plant Science All
February 14/2023
Hi Everyone,
We have been experiencing large ice chunks falling off the Plant Science Seed Storage/Processing/Seed, straw, hay Drying Building. A Car was damaged by falling ice breaking the rear window. There is great concern for you yourself getting impaled by the falling ice.
For now, because we have done as much as we can to block off this area until the pylons and danger tape come in, please stay away from this building and only enter this building from the east door on the seed storage area or the north drying bed door just opposite the Plant Science Field Station main door. All doors are marked safe to enter or not safe to enter. Use only these two doors to access the whole building for your complete safety from falling ice blocks from the roof.
Look up and stay 10' away from the building when walking to avoid falling ice.
Please park at least 8 feet from the building between the building and your front bumper and only if you absolutely must park. This will be at your own risk because you have been warned about this falling ice. More permanent Barricades hope to be in place shortly.
With thanks,
