Hi all,
We had a power outage in the Plant Science and Ag buildings this morning. Other buildings may have been affected as well. The power came back on at 8:15.
Please check all machines and processes that may have been affected by this outage.

Subject: New Protocols for Biobed 2023
Hi Justice,
Please send this email to everyone; it must be sent since it is to ensure another explosion doesn't happen at the biobed.
******
Hello Everyone!
I hope that the growing season is going well.
If you are receiving this email and are actively using the biobed, please read it to the end to ensure that you read this email.
An incident at the biobed occurred where a pipe disconnected and resulted in all of the rinsate becoming diluted and overflowing; this is no one's fault. However, in light of this, we must ensure that new practices are adopted to prevent flooding again. It has also resulted in me losing about 1 month of data for my thesis.
Please ensure the following:
1. The main valve of the biobed (photos attached below; Image 1 and 2) is CLOSED once you are done using it to ensure that the water pressure doesn't exceed capacity;
2. The Sump Pump Flow valve (Image 3, 4, and 5) is CLOSED once you are done using it to prevent water from entering the rinsate tank.

Hello everyone,
We are cleaning up one of Dr. Rob Hill's old lab room to set up the new Weed Ecology laboratory. In preparation of the room for our use, we have identified many pieces of glassware and other miscellaneous items that were left behind. Since most of this equipment is likely valuable to another research program, I would like to bring your attention to the attached PDF with images and brief descriptions of the items we would like to re-home. If you think your research program could benefit from any of these items, please reach out to me (jonathan.rosset(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:jonathan.rosset@umanitoba.ca>) before June 9, 2023 to arrange a time to inspect and re-home an item(s). After this time, any leftover items will be offered to other departments and faculties before being disposed of in the trash.
Thank you,

Drone demonstration and training session
Dilshan Benaragama initiated a drone demonstration and training session for an identified group of people in the Department and the Faculty on the 28th April 2023. The objective of the session was to gather a group of people with different expertise in remote sensing and drone imaging work and initiate a program to develop a drone-based imaging workflow to conduct research. This was also done in order to demonstrate the new drone and LiDAR sensor we obtained for the weed research program (Dilshan and Rob Gulden) and winter wheat breeding program (Curt McCartney) to carry out research in the future. Once the initial infrastructure is established, we are looking forward to conducting more of this training session for all the staff members and students who are interested in the Department and in the Faculty.
