Hello,
This is the write up for Rank and File.ca. I will also attach some of our graphics to use for the article. It should go up early next week.
Please let me know if this is good to go. I wanted to make it fairly short and to the point.
Thanks
Scott
I think this is great Scott. Well done.

That’s fine Scott. Thanks for doing it. One little thing. We’ve lost some workers. Our Call for Papers says over 30,000 and you say nearly 30,000. In fact we don’t really know, but we should be consistent.

Hi Scott,
This is great, thank you.
One question - why would you say 'industry capitalism' instead of 'industrial capitalism'?
Re the numbers who went out on strike (as Jim Naylor mentioned) I have always felt comfortable using the figure of 35,000, because this is what the strikers themselves claimed. Please see the attached archival photo of one of the parades held during the strike. You can see a sign reading 'We stand for 35,000 against 1,000'.
Best wishes,
Sharon

Hi Scott,
I just noticed a typo.
You ask people to include a brief *bibliography* with their paper proposal.
I believe you meant a brief *biography*.
Thanks,
Sharon

Hi Scott. Nice work. The only thing I would suggest is that it might be useful to explain very briefly why the 1919 strike is so important to labour and working-class history. It was more than a general strike of six weeks in one city. It inspired sympathy strikes in cities across Canada and was part of a much wider movement of strikes that included the US and Great Britain, all of them inspired by the possibilities embodied in the Russian Revolution. julie

Nice work, Scott! Thanks for making that change. I think Sharon is right: “some 3,500” is the safest way. Also, just a quibble: please add the semicolon: The Winnipeg General strike of 1919 was more than a six week strike in one city[;] it was an event with national and international reverberations. Thanks so much for doing this! julie
