FW: ICM January Transfer Students
Hello UM Advising Community,
Please see information shared from Robert Daudet, College Director and Principal from ICM regarding IRCC changes to study permit regulations. If you receive questions from students, please let them know that they will receive direction from ICM as soon as it is available and that the ICM student services team is available to support students through this potentially confusing/distressing time.
Best,

I am grateful to the Anishinaabeg, Ininewuk, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Dene, and the Red River Metis peoples, on whose home lands I live. I am also grateful to the people of Shoal Lake 40 in Treaty 3 territory, whose water I drink.

Good morning,
As a result of the most recent IRCC changes, students will be ineligible to switch Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs), including ICM students seeking to transfer to the UM, until they have a new study permit approved. I understand both your teams have started to get inquiries from ICM students who were hoping to transfer to the UM this coming January term. Attached is a copy of a communication that went out to all students who could potentially have 30 credit hours completed at the end of the current academic term (regardless if they applied to the UM or not).
We're actively working with Jeff and Erin on a plan that will allow students to continue studies in January term - this proposal is now with UM senior leadership and we anticipate hearing back from them today. Assuming this proposal is approved, a second round of communications will be shared with students, at which time I'll share those with you too.
As you get questions come through, if there are common themes, please let me know. We are working with an immigration lawyer to host additional workshops and one-on-one sessions for students. We're compiling lists of questions that we anticipate students will have/ones we have heard to help them create their workshop content.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support!

The International College of Manitoba recognizes its presence on the traditional territory of Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the birthplace and homeland of the Métis Nation. Our presence on this traditional land is sustained by drinking water from the community of Shoal Lake 40 First Nation in Treaty 3 Territory and electricity from beyond Treaty 1 Territory, including Nelson River in Treaty 5 Territory. As part of the larger organization, Navitas, we respect all the Treaties going beyond Treaty 1 Territory, as well as ancestral and unceded homelands of Indigenous Peoples.
