Message from Naomi Andrew, Vice-President (Administration), and Diane Hiebert-Murphy, Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
Dear UM Community,
Early this morning, an incident occurred in the Arthur V. Mauro Residence in which an unauthorized individual entered the building and assaulted a resident. Security Services are assisting Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) and supports are being provided to the affected residents. Effective today, UM is increasing the security presence on campus for the immediate future.
WPS has released an image of the individual believed to be responsible. As part of their ongoing investigation, we are sharing this with our university community to support efforts to identify and locate the suspect. You can find more details in the WPS news releasehttps://www.winnipeg.ca/police/community/news-releases/2024-10-25-assault-investigation-public-advisory-c24-249144.
If you have any information that could assist in the investigation, please contact WPS immediately.
The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff are of the utmost importance. Our Security Services team remains on-site and engaged with WPS to support their investigation. Please continue to take steps to ensure your personal safety, including locking doors and being mindful of access points.
For emergency assistance on campus, remember:
* In an emergency, call 911 first * Then contact Security Services: * Dial 555 from any university phone * Dial #555 from Bell MTS or Rogers Wireless * Dial 204-474-9341 from other phones * Use any emergency phone on campus
We recognize that incidents like this can be unsettling. If you have been impacted and would like support, we encourage you to reach out to:
* Student Counselling Centrehttps://umanitoba.ca/student-supports/student-health-and-wellness/student-counselling-centre-scc; or * supports for faculty and staffhttps://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-employee-wellness.

Sincerely,
Naomi Andrew, Vice-President (Administration) Diane Hiebert-Murphy, Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
