Calgary Herald: Women cyclists already surpassing targets

The pilot project of barrier-separated bike lanes [in downtown Calgary] opened in June with the hope of improving safety, comfort and connectivity for cyclists in the centre city. One of the project’s objectives has been to increase the number of women cycling, a target that in many areas of the network has already been exceeded.
“They make me feel so much more comfortable on the road,” said Cleaver, who plans to commute by bike all winter from her home in Sunalta to Stephen Avenue. “I feel a little bit more visible. There’s a space where people expect bikes to be.”
