NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING ON DUNKIRK
DRIVERS travelling south on Dunkirk Drive approaching Fermor Avenue will now occasionally experience red lights after the recent installation of a pedestrian crossing signal.
Previously, only southbound traffic turning left from Dunkirk onto Fermor could get a red light. Northbound traffic has always experienced a red-light cycle.
“It’s important for people to know this is here now because drivers have experienced a constant green light at this intersection for 58 years,” Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital) said in a news release Saturday. “We need drivers to be aware of this change.”
Both north and southbound traffic will be stopped when a pedestrian pushes a button at the southeast or southwest corners of the intersection.
The signal was installed to prepare for a new transit stop on eastbound Fermor that will begin service in December.
