Details: This annually funded scholarship will provide support to degree-related field research and related expenses (including travel, food, housing, and to return research findings to the research host community). It will provide an opportunity to conduct research and apply that research to those related communities, and to engage in outreach to translate the findings into communication to communities, public audiences, and policy-makers through written, visual, oral and/or multimedia means. Dear Faculty and Staff,
We are pleased to announce important updates to GETS (Graduate Enhancement of Tri-Agency Stipends) effective April 1, 2025. Key changes are as follows:
* Increased grant annual maximums. GETS will match up to $12,500 per eligible grant per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31). * Increased student funding:
* Master’s students – maximum $10,000 per year, program maximum $20,000. * Doctoral students – maximum $12,500 per year, program maximum $50,000.
* Specified funding start dates and application deadlines. GETS funding start dates will coincide with the start of term; specifically,
* May 1; application deadline June 30 * September 1; application deadline October 31 * January 1; application deadline February 28
* Changes to approved GETS. Following the approval of a GETS application, investigators may request one funding change per fiscal year (excluding terminations). GETS requires a minimum of two weeks' notice for changes to be processed. We strongly encourage PIs to continue GETS support when students receive additional scholarships to reward their accomplishments.
* Reduced required documentation. The FAST report upload is no longer required.
Existing GETS extending past April 1, 2025 are eligible for the increases mentioned above. If investigators would like to request an increase to GETS currently being paid to students, please reach out to GETS@umanitoba.camailto:GETS@umanitoba.ca no later than April 15, 2025. Please note that a new SFB form with the change in amount effective April 1, 2025 will be required.
