FW: Volunteers Urgently Needed to Help Children with Disabilities Learn to Ride a Two-Wheel Bike This Summer
Good day, Caution! This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.
[cid:image001.jpg@01DCF34B.5B348E60] We are reaching out to share a meaningful volunteer opportunity that may be of interest: Variety's Bike Camp in Winnipeg. Bike Camp helps children living with a disability learn to independently ride a two-wheel bike using adapted equipment, trained professionals, and volunteer support. About 80% of riders learn to ride independently, while the remaining riders make tremendous progress toward that goal. Training is provided, and volunteers help encourage and support riders during their sessions. What to Expect as a Volunteer: * Walk, jog, or run alongside a rider during a 75-minute session (with short breaks). * Support and encourage riders while providing physical assistance when needed. Volunteer dates: Week 1: June 29-July 3 Week 2: July 6-July 10 Location: East End Arena Transcona - 517 Pandora Ave E You can register for one shift, one day, one week or both weeks. We would be grateful if you could share this opportunity with your network, friends, family, coworkers, and anyone looking to make a direct impact in a child's life this summer. Register to volunteer: Week 1: Register for Week 1 (June 28 - July 3)https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/VarietytheChildren/volunteerbc.html Week 2: Register for Week 2 (July 6 - July 10)https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/VarietytheChildren/volunteerbc2.html What to Expect as a Volunteer: * Walk, jog, or run alongside a rider during a 75-minute session (with short breaks). * Support and encourage riders while providing physical assistance when needed. * Cover approximately 2 miles per session. If you are volunteering for multiple sessions, please be prepared for a physically active role. * Volunteers must be at least 16 years old (please contact us regarding limited exceptions). * We strongly encourage volunteers to commit to all 5 days of the same session whenever possible. Riders build trust and confidence with the volunteers supporting them, and consistency makes a huge difference in their success. However, we understand that a full-week commitment is not always possible, and even volunteering for a single session can still make a meaningful impact. Bike Camp serves 40 riders each week, meaning we need a large team of volunteers to make this life-changing program possible. Additional Information: * Volunteer hour documentation is available. * Snacks and lunch will be provided for volunteers staying all day. * Water refill stations will be available throughout the arena.
