The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the Vice-Provost (Students) and the University of Manitoba Graduate Student’s Association (UMGSA) are pleased to offer $100.00 towards the completion of Part-Time Academic English Courses (PTAEC)https://umanitoba.ca/english-language-centre/part-time-academic-english offered by English Language Centre (ELC)http://umanitoba.ca/elc. These courses are delivered in-person and/or remotely.
Students can apply for $100.00 of funding by clicking the application link at the bottom of this message.
If you receive the funding, the $100.00 will be applied directly to the cost of one 30-hour Part-time Academic English Course offered in the Winter 2026 term. Once approved for the funding, students will be responsible for payment of the additional $50.00 of the ELC course fees above and beyond the $100.00 funding.
Please note: The funding is only available for new course registrations and is not available as a refund for students that have already registered and paid for a course. Students already registered for a course are welcome to apply for the funding if interested in registering for an additional course in the Winter 2026 term.
The Part-Time Academic English Courses are: • 30 hours in duration (unless otherwise indicated) • One 3-hour class per week for 10 weeks • 10-15 students per class provides a considerable amount of one-on-one interaction with your instructor and classmates • Synchronous and interactive (with modest amounts of asynchronous work) • Facilitated by highly experienced English for Academic Purposes instructors • Engaging: Meet other students and practice your English in a supportive environment!

Graduate students seeking to apply for this funding must: • be a full time Masters or PhD student registered in the Winter 2026 term; • intend to enroll in a Part-Time Academic English Course offered through the English Language Centre in the Winter 2026 term; • confirm that English is not your first language; and • complete the subsidy application and submit it no later than December 12th, 2025.
A total of 100 subsidies will be offered and preference will be given to students who have not previously received this funding.
