Hello RT1 Students, Please see the following information regarding applications being accepted for the Discover Health Careers Manitoba. Information being sent on behalf of Candice Harmon: ________________________________________________________________________________________ Discover the health career that's right for you by joining the seasonal work experience program connecting health care students with positions in their current field of study, in their local Service Delivery Organization (SDO). Discover Health Careers Manitoba (formerly Home for the Summer) positions offer students hands-on experience in health care environments and direct patient interactions applicable to their training. The program began with a way to entice students to return to a rural setting upon graduation, but has opened up to sites within Winnipeg as well. How it works The duration of the position will be vary depending on the type of position. For allied health (ie. RT), this is up to a max of 10 weeks. Your wage will reflect your level of education ($16 - 25/hour). Space is limited, and not all that apply may be accepted into the program. Interested students may apply by completing and submitting the following forms. * DHCM | Nursing & Allied Health Application Form<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=UmsbEbOCP0uzFBsYWEDdKph…> It will be the responsibility of the site manager to reach out to the student for an interview, complete all hiring decisions and is your active supervisor. Some sites use this program for their RT Assistant positions, and hire students from Year 1 and 2. This is variable by site therefore depends on what the site needs and can offer. In the past, Grace, HSC, Misericordia, St. Boniface, and Home Care Respiratory have hired a student RT but it is open to all sites that have RTs in Manitoba. Immunization Information

Hello RT1 Students, Please see the following email being sent on behalf of Candice Harmon: Hi everyone, I spoke with a couple of you on Friday about immunizations and wanted to get a message out to the whole class. Because the immunization office is quite behind and this is not within our control, you will not be held back from clinical rotations due to immunization status. Clare reached out to the Immunization Office, and they stated that this years' Fall intake has not been reviewed yet and students are still being entered into the system. Clare sent out some messaging last week to those who still had to register for a Medeo account and submit your documents. The Immunization Office connects with you via Medeo so please be sure you have that as up to date as you can. The office is also stating this: "INQUIRIES REGARDING CLINICAL PLACEMENTS: It is not a requirement to be fully up to date with your immunizations prior to going on your placements" If you know what you are missing, you can try to connect with your family doctor to get what you need, but realize this is likely not possible. As you enter your clinical rotations, please be diligent with your PPE. Hello RT Students, Please see the following message regarding RTA job opportunities Message being sent on behalf of Nikki Hill: We have 2 additional casual Respiratory Therapy Assistant (RTA) positions that we have posted to help support our Child & Women's Respiratory Therapy Department with clinical support work. Shifts will mostly be weekdays after school/some weekends. Tasks include - stocking areas, cleaning & calibrating our many different types of ventilators, helping with nitric oxide stock & machines, setting up headwalls as needed, etc. Basically, all the supportive tasks that keep our department running smoothly. Dear Students, We are inviting healthy volunteers to participate in a research study exploring the structure and function of extra-diaphragmatic respiratory muscles. This study is being conducted at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg by researchers from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Manitoba. Study Overview: Purpose: To assess respiratory muscles function in healthy individuals and their relationship with physical and respiratory function. What’s Involved? * One-time, one-hour visit to our research facility. * Non-invasive tests (muscle ultrasound, lung function tests, fitness assessments, etc.). * No blood draws or invasive procedures. * Completion of three brief questionnaires on daily activities and quality of life. Who Can Participate? • Healthy adults Who Cannot Participate? • Current smokers • History of acute or chronic cardiovascular or pulmonary disease • Neuromuscular disease • Cognitive disease that may impact test performance • History of thoracic or abdominal surgery • History of thoracic or abdominal trauma • Thoracic or abdominal deformation • Current pregnancy • History of cancer Why Participate? • Support innovative research in rehabilitation sciences and respiratory health. • Receive feedback on your muscle strength and lung function if desired. 💡 Help Us Spread the Word!
