Reminder for the March 24, 1-2, D017, Merkeley (DH2) and March 26, 9-10, D018, Garvin (DH3) Course Evaluation Sessions scheduled with Dr. Schonwetter. At this session you will be completing the: - DH2/3 Teaching and Staff awards nominations - Exit survey - Time to complete the SRIs for your courses (needed for tenure and promotion of your instructors). This session is listed in UM Learn and you will need to BRING YOUR LAPTOP. I would also like to remind you to set up Course Evaluation sessions between the Class Reps and your Instructors (course listing/student rep lists attached). Clinical Update

Students, As we are quickly approaching the end of the clinical sessions for this term there are a few things that need your attention: 1. As screenings continue, please let potential patients know that we are coming to the end of the academic year, and they will not be assigned to a student for a treatment plan and treatment until the fall. If they have any urgent concerns, they will need to seek care in private practice until we begin clinics in September 2025. 2. Make sure you complete ALL items in the screening form. Without this information the front desk is unable to determine what student level to assign the patient to. Also DO NOT list all student groups to assign the patient to, PICK ONE. If the patient has mainly D3 needs and perhaps a molar endo then ASSIGN D3. If you list assign D2, D3, or D4 you can see this defeats the main purpose of screening. Remember it is you as students who are selecting your patient pool, pick wisely and help decide which learning level the patient is overall best suited for. 3. Start reviewing your patient records to ensure you have all forms properly completed and swiped where required in preparation for clearances. 4. Correction cards need to be signed by the instructor who swiped you on the session when the error was made. Please minimize errors, correcting incorrect entries in axium is very time consuming for all. 5. Late submissions to the MDR are being tracked. Please review the Clinical Manual to refresh yourself on the consequences of late MDR equipment hand-in. 6. Make sure you have all procedure codes swiped by your instructor BEFORE you bring your patient to the front desk. If you do not have all codes and forms properly swiped by your instructor the front desk staff will ask that you and your patient return to the clinic to complete this. 7. Continue to work together, stay focused on learning and providing your patients with outstanding compassionate dental care. Trenna M. Dispositions/ Pt requests

Hello DH2, I wanted to send a quick update regarding patient dispositions and new patient requests. Moving forward, I'm okay with not using the forms on Axium for these tasks. Instead, you can send me a message on Axium for both dispositions and new patient requests. Please make sure to send a separate message for each patient to both me and Marta, along with a brief explanation of why the patient is being dispositioned. Before submitting a disposition request, please ensure that all contact notes-including text message conversations-are properly documented. As per COD policies, if there are fewer than three documented attempts to contact the patient, spaced out by at least one week, we will need to wait before proceeding with the disposition. If a patient has explicitly stated they no longer wish to come to the school, please document this in the chart and notify both me and Marta. The attached has been developed with input from Class Representatives and Course Coordinators. Please review the attached information and let me know of any individual concerns prior to Friday, October 25th, 2024. If no concerns are raised in regards to this schedule (prior to the deadline) I will notify, via e-mail, that the schedule has been confirmed and it will become FINAL. At that time I will finish adding it to UM Learn Calendars. Please be reminded that until this schedule has been finalized, you are expected to remain available until the end of the exam period (until 5 pm of the last date). Please be advised that this quiz will be moving to the following week, on Thursday, March 6th. The quiz will cover 2 lectures: (1) Liners, Bases, and Temporary Restorations and (2) Composite Restorations. We will discuss the quiz in more detail when you return from Reading Week. Providing Care to Family and Friends Memo

Attention Dental Hygiene Class of 2025 & 2026 I want to address an important issue regarding patient care and maintaining professional boundaries, particularly concerning providing care to friends and family outside our clinic setting. Providing care to friends and family is a privilege. While offering dental assistance or evaluations to people we know may be tempting, it is crucial to remember that until someone officially becomes a patient or is currently a patient of our college’s clinic, offering care outside the established professional framework is inappropriate and unethical. As oral health professionals in training, we must uphold the highest standards of practice in the clinic and in our personal lives. Please avoid offering care to patients who are not officially enrolled or current patients at the school clinic outside the dental college. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. HYGN 1292 - No asynchronous lecture this week

Good afternoon DH2, I just wanted to remind you that we have no recorded lecture in HYGN 1292 this week. We will start the class with our first quiz of the term, and then we will discuss the process for your Amalgam Competency Test next week. Following that, you will have the remainder of the morning to complete your amalgam lab requirements. For those of you who are looking for some additional practice in preparation for the Amalgam competency test next week, I will place some additional practice teeth in your mailboxes.
