SDH Policy on Final Exams and Grades

** Sent on behalf of Mary Bertone, Director, School of Dental Hygiene ** Hello DH2 & DH3, While you are busy with exams or preparing for the upcoming, please review the following SDH policies on Final grades, examinations, and supplemental examinations. Good luck with your exams! SDH Final Examination and Grade Results Policy: Final Exam Results: Final exam results will not be posted. Final Grade Notification: Final grades will be posted in Aurora after all grading activities are completed. Please allow 3 weeks for the final grades to be processed. Incomplete Grades: An "Incomplete" grade may be assigned if a student cannot complete course requirements due to extenuating circumstances as approved by the School of Dental Hygiene director. Supplemental Examinations A supplemental examination is an examination that may be offered as a privilege to a dental hygiene student who has failed a dental hygiene (HYGN) course or failed to achieve a satisfactory result. Such examinations are offered in order to grant the student an opportunity to rectify the inadequacy without repeating the course. Supplemental examination privileges are permitted in the School of Dental Hygiene for all HYGN courses with the exception of those in which remediation/re-examination is not realistically feasible. Such privileges must be approved by Dentistry College Council. Students seeking supplemental privileges should contact the Director indicating her/his request. Applications to write a supplemental examination must be accompanied by the paid fee before the supplemental examination can be written. The student will be notified in a letter from the Director's Office if she/he is granted the privilege and under what specific conditions. A student in DH 2 and DH 3 who has failed in not more than two HYGN courses at the end of the regular term, may, at the discretion of the Director and with approval from Dentistry College Council, be awarded the privilege of one or two supplemental examination(s). A student must maintain a minimum sessional (combined Fall and Winter terms) GPA of 2.0 in that year in order to be eligible for supplemental privileges. The passing grade in supplemental examinations is "C" for each course. A student who is granted supplemental privileges is obliged to sit the examination at the earliest opportunity. The student must contact the course coordinator within 7 days of the date the notification letter from the Director's Office to schedule a plan for remediation and a date to write their supplemental examination. Supplemental examinations must be held prior to the opening of the Fall academic session. A student who has not successfully exercised supplemental privileges will be considered to have failed the year and may be required to repeat the entire year or a modified program as required by Dentistry College Council. If/when the condition is removed in that session, the student will be regarded as having completed the year to which the condition applied. Good morning DH3, I am pleased to provide details about our upcoming workshop, "Advanced Techniques in Implant Maintenance." Below you will find our agenda which provides an overview for the day. 8:15 - 8:30 AM Registration (location: Theatre E) 8:30 - 8:35 AM Welcome and Introductions 8:35 - 10:15 AM Lecture: Advanced Techniques in Implant Maintenance - Dr. Jack Lipkin 10:15 - 10:30 AM Break 10:30 - 11:30 AM Lecture: Advanced Techniques in Implant Maintenance - Dr. Jack Lipkin 11:30 - 12:00 PM DH3 Didactic Test on UM Learn (approximate time) 12:00 - 1:00 PM Lunch and Learn: Sponsored by Nobel Biocare Canada (location: Alpha Omega) 1:00 - 1:15 PM Lab Demonstration: Dr. Jack Lipkin (location: Brass Lab) 1:15 - 3:00 PM Hands-on exercise (location: Brass Lab) I want to draw your attention to a few key details: * Start Time: 8:15 AM * End Time: 3:00 PM * Lunch and Learn: A session hosted by Nobel Biocare will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Lunch will be provided. Workshop Assessments: To successfully complete the workshop, DH3 students will be required to pass a didactic test and participate in a hands on activity. Do not panic, if you listen well and actively engage in the morning session, you will do well. Didactic Test: * Time: 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM * Format: 20 multiple choice questions based on the material presented by Dr. Lipkin during the morning session. We are honored to have Dr. Jack Lipkin, a renowned expert in prosthodontics, leading this session. His expertise and generosity in sharing his knowledge provide an incredible learning opportunity for us all. Please come prepared to engage fully and make the most of this valuable workshop. Please note that we will have several residents from the Grad Perio and Grad Prostho departments, as well as the Registrar of the College of Dental Hygienists of Manitoba (CDHM) also participating in this session. Winter Term Schedules

Hello Dental Hygiene students, Attached are your winter term schedules by week and the overall Winter Timetable. Also included is the Dentistry/Dental Hygiene Academic Schedule. Note winter term courses will be available in UM Learn as of January 5th. If access to any fall courses disappears over the next few weeks, please let your instructor know and copy me and Director Bertone on the email. There are sometimes some behind the scenes processes that shut down UM Learn automatically and we will ensure that they are up and available for your exam period. After January 5th, please use your schedules in UM Learn as I will not be updating these Excel documents and/or re-circulating them. Note that any exam information included on the weekly schedules is DRAFT and subject to change. Please do not make any travel arrangements until these exam schedules are FINAL. Please also note that you are required to attend clinical clearance at the end of term. Presently, this has been scheduled after the last week of clinics for DH3 and the week after exams for DH2. If there are discrepancies between lecture information entered in UM Learn and your course outline, please confirm with your Course Coordinator. If there are changes to be made in UM Learn, please let me know and I can update the schedule as required. Good luck with exams coming up and have a very restful and joyful holiday season! Open Clinic Attendance Guidance for This Week

Good morning DH3, To give you additional time to prepare for your upcoming exams and to allow instructors to focus on students with active patient cases, any student who has completed all Clearance activities (including instructor approvals) may remain home during any open clinic sessions this week. Please note that the open clinic will still count as an open clinic session and must still be documented in your Weekly Clinic Summary; however, you will not be required to be physically present for the session. If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to reach out. Best of luck with your last few clinics and your upcoming exams!
